Prophetic AI Develops Wearable Device to Control Dreams

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prophetic AI has announced the launch of two novel wearable devices aimed at enabling individuals to control their dreams. The company claims that these devices, named Dual and Phase, could revolutionise the dream experience, with a starting price of $449 (approximately Rs 42,300). This assertion raises questions about the feasibility and effectiveness of such technology.

Mechanism of Action

The devices reportedly function by emitting safe ultrasonic energy that penetrates the forehead to stimulate the prefrontal cortex. According to Prophetic AI, this activation enhances the frontoparietal network, which usually remains dormant during the dreaming phase, thereby potentially facilitating lucid dreaming. The company has shared insights about the devices on X, outlining their intended operational framework.

By engaging this brain network, Prophetic AI asserts that users might experience greater lucidity during dreams, allowing them to exert more control. Additionally, the Prophetic Pulse integrates electroencephalogram (EEG) sensors to monitor brain activity, a technology also employed by other companies like Elon Musk’s Neuralink in their brain implant innovations.

The underlying principle behind the devices combines transcranial focused ultrasound (tFUS) technology with artificial intelligence aimed at targeting the prefrontal cortex during the rapid eye movement (REM) sleep phase. Although the potential benefits include improved dream recall and vividness, the scientific validity of these claims remains to be established.

Cost and Availability

The pricing for the Prophetic Dual is set at $449 (approximately Rs 43,200), with shipments scheduled to commence by the end of this year. Meanwhile, the Prophetic Phase is priced significantly higher at $1,299 (around Rs 1,22,000) and is expected to start shipping in mid-2027. This disparity in prices highlights the differing functionalities and projected capabilities of the two devices.

As interest in wearable technology evolves, the introduction of these devices by Prophetic AI marks a notable advancement in the realm of personal technology and sleep science. While claims about dream control are ambitious, the long-term implications of such devices will depend on empirical evidence and user experiences following their release.

In a rapidly advancing technological landscape, the intersection of AI and neuroscience presents a unique opportunity for innovation. Prophetic AI’s approach may incentivise further research into the manipulation of sleep and dream states, laying the foundation for additional developments in this unexpected domain.
