The CSR Journal Magazine

Switzerland is poised to host the upcoming World Summit on artificial intelligence in Geneva in 2027, as declared by Federal Councillor Albert Rosti during his keynote speech at the AI for Good Global Summit 2026. Rosti emphasised the transformative nature of artificial intelligence across various sectors of society, noting the significance of the AI for Good platform since its inception in 2017. This initiative has become a prominent global forum that connects governments, researchers, and innovators to engage in discussions about the future of AI and to demonstrate its capabilities.

Importance of Collaboration in Innovation

Rosti highlighted the crucial role that collaboration plays in fostering innovation, stating that meaningful advancements occur when researchers interact with policymakers, entrepreneurs partner with international organisations, and diverse perspectives convene to address common challenges. He asserted that the AI for Good Summit serves as a reminder that the core focus of artificial intelligence lies in enhancing lives, creating opportunities, and developing innovative solutions to shared societal issues.

During his address, Rosti expressed pride in announcing that the next World Summit on AI would take place in Geneva in 2027. This reflects the ongoing legacy of innovation and purposeful engagement at the AI for Good platform. He articulated that the upcoming summit will carry forward the spirit of human-centric innovation that has characterised previous gatherings in the city.

Rosti noted that Switzerland is eager to co-host this summit alongside the International Telecommunication Union and several United Nations partners. He underscored Switzerland’s extensive tradition of research and international cooperation, asserting that technological advancements yield their maximum benefits when they are open and centred on public welfare. He also remarked on Geneva’s unique setting as a hub for international organisations, scientific expertise, and diplomatic institutions.

Global Dialogue on AI Continues

In a follow-up to the initial announcement, Swiss Ambassador to India, Maya Tissafi, expressed her enthusiasm for the decision made in Geneva. In a post on X, she acknowledged that the global dialogue surrounding AI will persist in Switzerland, following the symbolic handover from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Swiss President Guy Parmelin at the 2026 AI Summit in New Delhi. This transition signifies the continuity of discussions on AI at an international level.

Tissafi further indicated that the Geneva AI Summit, scheduled for 21-22 June 2027, will bring together global leaders, experts, and international organisations with a focus on two primary areas: leveraging AI as a catalyst for global prosperity and promoting its safe application. The summit aims to foster productive conversations in a city renowned for its commitment to dialogue and multilateral collaboration.

Rosti reiterated the importance of working together in the evolving landscape of artificial intelligence, stressing that as AI technologies become increasingly pervasive, it is vital to ensure their development remains trustworthy, inclusive, and aligned with human needs. He contended that responsible innovation and technological progress do not conflict; rather, they complement one another, paving the way for a thriving technological future.
