Timeline and Response to the Fire Incident

Emergency services were alerted about the fire at Flourish Stay B&B in Malviya Nagar at 8:48 am. Delhi Police responded rapidly, initiating rescue and relief operations on-site. At the height of the emergency, eight fire tenders were deployed to control the blaze, a collaborative effort involving police, fire services, and other emergency responders.

More than 40 individuals were successfully evacuated and subsequently transported to local hospitals for treatment. Despite the efforts of the rescue teams, the incident tragically claimed the lives of 21 people. Official statements from local authorities confirmed their commitment to ensuring thorough support and assistance for those affected by the fire.

As per the police release, the search and rescue operations continued as teams remained in the vicinity to ensure comprehensive aid was available. Further updates regarding the situation were promised as they become available.

Building and Occupant Details

Fire Officer AK Malik provided insights into the building’s composition and the occupants at the time of the incident. He noted that the structure consisted of a basement, ground floor, and five upper levels, and it was largely accommodating individuals associated with local hospital stays, primarily relatives of patients at MAX Hospital located across the street.

According to Malik, preliminary investigations revealed that the building was not operating as a conventional residential facility. Moreover, reports indicate that foreign nationals were among the residents during the fire. Thankfully, the fire was suppressed within a short period of time, allowing for a more effective rescue operation.

The situation at the building has since been stabilised, and law enforcement officials have taken control for further investigations into the cause and circumstances surrounding the fire. The focus remains on understanding the incident better to prevent future occurrences.
