Prashant Kishor Establishes New Political Base Near Patna

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, has transitioned his political base from Sheikhpura House in Patna to the newly developing Bihar Nav Nirmaan Ashram, located approximately 40 kilometres from the city, near IIT-Patna. He confirmed the move to India Today, stating that he relocated from his previous residence on the night of Tuesday, May 19, 2026, and has begun functioning from the ashram.

Kishor mentioned that the ashram is intended to serve as the nucleus of his political and organisational activities in anticipation of the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The construction at the Bihar Nav Nirmaan Ashram is being carried out on about 15 bighas of land, with a projected completion timeline of three to four months, although Kishor has already made the ashram his new operational base.

Jan Suraaj Party representatives noted that the ashram will facilitate various party functions, including meetings, strategy discussions, training sessions, and interactions with supporters and party workers from across Bihar. The objective is to establish a stable grassroots political foundation for the Jan Suraaj movement leading up to future elections.

Previous Base at Sheikhpura House

Prior to this significant shift, Prashant Kishor was residing at Sheikhpura House, a bungalow owned by the family of former BJP MP Uday Singh, who is also the national president of the Jan Suraaj Party. This residence had become instrumental to the organisation’s political activities, particularly during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, where it hosted crucial meetings, candidate discussions, and media interactions.

Despite the setbacks experienced by Jan Suraaj in the 2025 elections, where the party secured no seats despite contesting numerous ones, Kishor remains committed to his campaign. He has consistently asserted that Jan Suraaj is not merely a temporary election endeavour but a sustained movement aimed at transforming the political landscape of Bihar.

Kishor has frequently highlighted that the political environment in Bihar is ensnared in caste dynamics and dynastic politics, with essential issues such as education, employment, migration, and development being overlooked. His efforts are directed towards creating a platform that addresses these relevant concerns.

Continued Efforts Despite Setbacks

This is not the first occasion Prashant Kishor has implemented an ashram-style approach to political outreach. In December 2024, he initiated a similar political centre near Patna’s Marine Drive, where Jan Suraaj activists would convene for discussions during the expansion of the party. Such initiatives are part of his broader strategy to engage the electorate in a meaningful dialogue.

Political analysts believe that Kishor’s move to the Bihar Nav Nirmaan Ashram, despite the disappointing electoral results, conveys a firm message regarding the persistence of his political movement. He aims to reaffirm his commitment to the vision of “changing Bihar” leading up to the next assembly elections in 2030. Observers note that this move may be an effort to reinvigorate the party’s presence and operational dynamics in the political sphere.

As the Jan Suraaj Party gears up for future electoral contests, Kishor’s establishment at the new ashram signifies a shift in strategy aimed at fostering a sustainable political environment, which he hopes will resonate with the electorate over the coming years.
