PM Modi Celebrates Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary as India’s 100th Ramsar Site

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed satisfaction following the designation of the Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary, also known as Surha Tal, in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, as India’s 100th Ramsar site. This recognition highlights a vital milestone in the country’s ongoing efforts to protect its wetlands and natural ecosystems. In a statement shared on X, the Prime Minister remarked, “A century as far as Ramsar sites are concerned! Glad that the Jai Prakash Narayan Bird Sanctuary (Surha Tal) in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, has been designated as India’s 100th Ramsar site.” He noted that this wetland area boasts considerable avifaunal biodiversity and serves as a haven for various migratory and resident bird species, thus playing a crucial role in the environment.

PM Modi emphasised that the commitment to preserving these natural resources is reflected in the significant rejuvenation efforts undertaken over the years.
