Paper Leak Crisis: Rajasthan Tests Tablet-Based Recruitment Exams

The CSR Journal Magazine

At this point of time, competitive exams’ paper leak is a major issue. Aspirants are committing suicides, youngster and their parents are protesting in New Delhi and demanding urgent action, owing to this Rajasthan Staff Selection Board is working on an alternative model that would stop paper leak.

Creating an alternative to the current test practice, the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSSB) is developing a model where tests can be conducted using a tablet. RSSB Chairman Alok Raj shared the information with media, he said in order to make the process simpler and secure they are trying this alternation, “First preparing the papers, delivery to examinees in various districts and then collection and redelivery, this is a tedious task, creating tablet-based exam will reduce half the time and make it secure. Besides, in this process thousands of people are in the chain, which increases the risk,”.

He noted that the best solution to reduce or eradicate the risk is computer-based testing; however, the biggest challenge is the number of labs where tests can be conducted, there are limited labs in the state and candidate number is high. And above all there are security concerns in labs, there is high risk of remote access. Thus Raj suggests alternatives like a tablet-based test.

This isn’t an alternative that Raj has just thought over, a dry run has been conducted in the state, where hackers and vendors were present.

How is this tabloid-based exam system being developed?

To develop this system seamlessly, assistance is being taken from IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras.

“Currently we are experimenting and we are very close to completion. If it is a success then we would simply hand over these tablets to candidates and question paper will be distributed through a server and candidates will access it on the tablets, while sitting at government school centres.” He noted that the model will be hybrid. Keeping in mind that there is a risk of hacking the server, IIT Madras is working on it and if successful then it will be a big revolution. “Tablet-based competitive tests will reduce the time considerably, also reduce the printing and transporting costs. Besides, a question bank will also be created which will make it full proof,” said Raj.
