NTA Extends NEET UG 2026 Exam Duration to 195 Minutes

The CSR Journal Magazine

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced several significant modifications for the upcoming NEET UG 2026 examination, which is scheduled to take place on June 21. These changes are aimed at enhancing the overall experience for candidates sitting for this crucial test. Notably, the examination will now be conducted over a period of 195 minutes, which will run from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM.

This extension in time includes essential formalities, such as attendance taking and the procedures required for invigilation. The NTA has emphasised that this adjustment is intended to ensure candidates receive maximum effective time for completing the examination without the anxiety associated with administrative delays.

Increased Rough Work Space

This change has been made following feedback from candidates in previous years, where the limited amount of space available for rough work was frequently cited as a challenge during their examination. The additional pages are anticipated to assist students in demonstrating their problem-solving processes more effectively.

The new arrangement ensures that candidates have ample space throughout the examination, reducing the likelihood of candidates feeling rushed or constrained while attempting to work through complex problems.

Revised Layout of Question Paper Booklet

The NTA has also introduced a revised design for the question paper booklet, which is another significant update for candidates. Previously, all rough work pages were located only at the end of the booklet. The new design will include two rough work pages placed immediately after the instruction sheet, with the remaining two pages positioned at the end.

This adjustment is particularly beneficial for left-handed students, as it may provide them with improved convenience during the examination process. Such thoughtful modifications are indicative of the NTA’s responsiveness to the needs and preferences of candidates during these high-stakes assessments.

In its communication, the NTA has stated that these changes demonstrate its ongoing commitment to creating a more candidate-friendly examination environment while upholding established standards of fairness and security. Even small adjustments in exam design can significantly impact a candidate’s performance during a competitive examination like NEET.

Guidelines for Smooth Examination Conduct

As the examination date approaches, candidates are advised to thoroughly review all instructions provided on their admit cards. It is crucial that candidates adhere to the guidelines set forth by invigilators on the day of the exam to ensure a smooth and orderly examination experience.

Overall, these updates from the NTA intend to optimise the testing experience for candidates, allowing them to focus entirely on their performance rather than administrative concerns. The agency remains focused on making the examination as fair and streamlined as possible for all participants.

These adjustments, which include an extended exam duration and improved resources for rough work, are expected to benefit a diverse range of candidates, ultimately contributing to a positive and effective evaluation experience for those participating in NEET UG 2026.
