The CSR Journal Magazine

Colgate-Palmolive (India) Limited has made significant strides in its social and environmental initiatives during the financial year 2025–26, reaching 11 million children and their families through comprehensive oral-health education efforts. The company’s Annual and ESG Report for the year highlights various programmes dedicated to renewable energy, water conservation, and sustainable manufacturing practices.

According to the report, approximately 300,000 beneficiaries were empowered through educational and environmental sustainability programmes. These community-focused initiatives are aligned with the Colgate 2030 Sustainability and Social Impact Strategy, showcasing the company’s long-term commitment to social responsibility.

Colgate’s initiatives reportedly enabled more than 4.5 million individuals in 700 districts to access advanced technology for oral-health screenings. The screenings utilised an artificial intelligence-powered tool to deliver dental scores and personalised guidance, demonstrating the company’s focus on leveraging technology for public health.

Oral-Health Movement and Education Scholarships Achieved Significant Impact

The flagship Bright Smiles, Bright Futures programme reached 11 million children and their families across 35,000 schools during the fiscal year. Since its inception in India in 1991, the programme has engaged 195 million children and families, promoting best practices in brushing, nutrition, and tobacco prevention to improve overall oral health.

Additionally, the Keep India Smiling Education Scholarship Programme supported over 1,000 students across 269 districts in 28 states during the reporting year. Among the selected scholars, sixty per cent represented diverse backgrounds, with 55 per cent hailing from families with annual incomes below Rs. 2 lakh. Half of these scholarships were directed towards students aspiring to become dental professionals.

Since its launch in 2019, this scholarship initiative has assisted over 8,300 scholars, partnering with Buddy4Study India Foundation to combine financial support with opportunities for digital learning and skill development.

Digital Literacy and Sustainable Practices Foster Growth

Colgate India also prioritised digital and financial literacy during FY 2025–26, training over 380 Digital Sakhis—community facilitators who empowered more than 100,000 beneficiaries to engage more confidently in the digital economy. The initiative also conducted sessions focused on financial literacy for 366 persons with disabilities, linking them to government welfare schemes worth over Rs. 435 crore.

Since 2021, this programme has reached more than 237,000 beneficiaries across over 650 villages, implemented in collaboration with organisations such as Seva Mandir, Haqdarshak, and NIIT Foundation. This effort is part of Colgate’s broader strategy to enhance community engagement and support underprivileged groups.

On the environmental front, renewable sources accounted for 50.38 per cent of the total energy consumed across Colgate India’s manufacturing plants during FY 2025–26, with 60 per cent of electricity sourced from renewables. The company reported a 43 per cent decrease in operational carbon emissions relative to the FY 2020–21 baseline and aspires to achieve 100 per cent renewable electricity by 2030.

Colgate India’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing practices has been acknowledged through the retention of platinum-level TRUE certification for zero waste across all company-owned manufacturing plants. Furthermore, the firm reported a 100 per cent collection rate of plastic waste in compliance with India’s Extended Producer Responsibility framework, with 95 per cent of its packaging being recyclable. The company also maintained a water-positive status, replenishing over 17,941 kilolitres of rainwater through its operations, and has contributed to the replenishment of approximately 460 million litres of water in Maharashtra and Rajasthan since 2018.
