Novak Djokovic has articulated his desire to travel to India in the near future, citing a strong connection with the Indian fan base. The 24-time Grand Slam champion conveyed his gratitude to his supporters during a recent interview, expressing appreciation for their long-standing backing both at tournaments and globally.

In his conversation with Times Now, held during the Laureus Sports Awards in Madrid, Djokovic stated that he has been experiencing a “calling” to visit India. He also mentioned that he hopes to engage with his fans there more intimately. “My message would be: see you very soon in India, because I need to go to India,” he remarked.

The tennis star indicated his eagerness to either organise an event or play a match during his anticipated visit. While he has not set a definitive timeline for the trip, Djokovic remains optimistic about the possibility.

Uncertainties Surrounding Timeline

Djokovic affirmed his intention to visit India, acknowledging the uncertainties inherent in scheduling such an event, particularly as it relates to his career commitments. “I really hope that I’ll be able to come to India and do an event, play a match or whatever it is,” he commented, emphasising his closeness to the people of India.

The Serbian athlete also addressed the upcoming Olympic cycle. He recognised the potential challenges but expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity. “I am looking forward to it. I think it’s a very long way, two years, for me at this stage of my career and life, but you never know,” he said, highlighting his ambition to represent Serbia at the Olympics.

While Djokovic has not finalised his itinerary, he remains hopeful that his visit to India will materialise soon, contingent on his professional obligations and schedule.

Connection with Virat Kohli

Djokovic discussed his relationship with former Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli, noting the influence Kohli has had on his interest in cricket. “Yes, Virat is a friend and someone I, of course, respect and admire,” Djokovic remarked. He stated that Kohli was the reason he began following cricket, reflecting on their mutual respect.

The two athletes have maintained contact, and Djokovic expressed a desire for a collaborative sporting experience during his visit to India. “When I come to India, hopefully he can join, and then we could do a little bit of tennis, a little bit of cricket, and have fun and just spread positive, good vibes with people,” he shared.

The anticipated crossover event between Djokovic and Kohli has sparked excitement among fans. Although formal plans have yet to be established, Djokovic’s comments indicate that such an interaction could form part of his visit to India, embracing both sports and their respective audiences.
