KC Venugopal, a Member of Parliament from the Congress party, has stated that the Opposition has unitedly agreed to demand a discussion on the alleged leaks of the NEET and CBSE examination papers. This call for discussion is being made through an adjournment motion, with the Opposition also insisting on the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

During a press conference held on July 22, Venugopal informed reporters that talks among opposition parties had reached a consensus on the necessity for a discussion. He indicated that over the past three days, multiple adjournment motions have been submitted concerning the exam leak issues, alongside calls for appropriate preventative measures.

Venugopal elaborated that the Opposition is prepared to engage in dialogues should the government accept their adjournment motion. He reflected on a statement made by Minister Jitendra Singh, who indicated a willingness to discuss the matter, yet questioned the nature and rules governing such a discussion.

Allegations of Government Insensitivity

KC Venugopal underscored the seriousness of the issue, asserting that it has evolved into a national concern, with families across the country discussing its implications. He voiced disappointment over what he perceived as a lack of government sensitivity towards the ongoing educational crisis.

According to Venugopal, the Opposition’s protests, characterised by their black attire, are a symbolic representation of their grievances towards the government’s handling of student welfare and educational integrity. Alongside him, notable Opposition figures such as Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav participated in these demonstrations.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, another Congress MP, articulated the frustrations of the student community. She pointed out the disparity in government spending, noting that while the education budget stands at Rs 1.4 lakh crores, substantial loans are being waived for large corporations. She criticised the repeated occurrences of paper leaks and labelled the government’s response to student protests as undemocratic.

Congress Protests Lead to Detentions and Calls for Change

On July 21, Congress implemented a protest outside Lok Kalyan Marg, which resulted in the detention of several key party leaders by Delhi Police. This action has been described by Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge as indicative of the government’s undemocratic practices and a lack of respect for parliamentary procedures.

Kharge stated that the government’s response to peaceful protests reveals tendencies towards dictatorial governance. He mentioned that if the current practices continue, there would be considerable public unrest. His remarks emphasise the Opposition’s determination to challenge the government’s stance and highlight the growing discontent among citizens regarding student issues.

Pawan Khera, another Congress MP, affirmed the collective stance of the Opposition during the protests. He remarked on the symbolic choice of black attire as a representation of their dissent against the government’s treatment of students. This protest is positioned as a stand against the perceived failures of the government to address the unrest emerging from the student population.

The escalating situation continues to unfold as the Opposition remains resolute in its calls for accountability and reform regarding the examination leaks.
