Modi exudes confidence at Barrackpore rally as phase 2 campaigning ends

The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public rally in Barrackpore on Monday, marking the final day of campaigning ahead of the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections scheduled for April 29. Speaking amid intense heat and a charged political atmosphere, Modi projected strong confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) electoral prospects in the state.

Addressing a large gathering, the Prime Minister struck an optimistic note about the BJP’s chances.

“Visiting Bengal this time evokes a distinct and unique feeling within me. Despite the scorching heat, I feel no fatigue. This is my last rally in Bengal election. I will return from Bengal with the conviction that I will be back again on the day of the oath-taking ceremony after May 4,” Modi said, asserting that the BJP is poised to form the next government in the state.

Crowd enthusiasm signals ‘change’

Modi said he was overwhelmed by the response received during his campaign tour across West Bengal.

“I could never have imagined receiving such an outpouring of love. These did not feel like mere roadshows, but sacred pilgrimages,” he remarked, suggesting that public sentiment indicates a decisive shift in favour of the BJP.

Reflecting on his political journey, the Prime Minister highlighted his decades-long engagement with the public.

“I have spent decades travelling across the country. Being among people gives me satisfaction. You—the people—are my family,” he said.

Focus on eastern India’s growth

Emphasising the importance of eastern India in national development, Modi referred to regions such as Bihar (“Anga”), Odisha (“Kalinga”), and Bengal (“Banga”). He noted that Bihar and Odisha already have “double-engine” governments and stated that Bengal’s turn has now come.

Launching a strong critique of the ruling Trinamool Congress, Modi accused it of straying from its foundational slogan of “Ma, Mati, Manush.” He alleged that despite 15 years in power, the party has failed to ensure women’s safety and deliver meaningful development.

“Having nothing to show, they have resorted to abuses and falsehoods,” he said.

The Prime Minister further accused the state government of corruption and of undermining institutions, including the armed forces, the Constitution, and the judiciary. He also alleged an atmosphere of intimidation and lawlessness, claiming the ruling party has not presented a credible governance report card.

Monday marked the culmination of campaigning for the second phase, with several top leaders intensifying their outreach. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also campaigning in the state, whileMamata Banerjee.
