The CSR Journal Magazine

Lalit Modi has announced that a biopic depicting his life is currently in progress, with the script still being crafted. The former chairman of the Indian Premier League revealed that the producers have not yet finalised a lead actor for the film. He mentioned that actor Ranveer Singh previously expressed interest in portraying him and even travelled to London to discuss the project two years ago.

Modi recalled the meeting, stating, “Ranveer wants to play me and he came to see me. I would like him to play, only if he has the time as now he has become so big.” The former IPL commissioner clarified that he was not well acquainted with Singh at the time, having known actress Deepika Padukone better. Modi described the occasion as unexpected, where he received a call indicating Singh wanted to meet him.

Although he noted that Singh’s burgeoning success might influence his availability, Modi expressed admiration for the actor’s talent. “He said in his life, if there was one role he wanted to play, it would be Lalit Modi as commissioner,” Modi stated. He emphasised that it was Singh who approached him about the role, showcasing his appreciation for the actor’s body of work.

Biopic Research and Development

Speaking further about the biopic, Modi explained that extensive research is taking place to ensure an authentic representation of his life. He disclosed, “There is a biopic in the works. It’s all being scripted right now. I’ve already sat for hundreds of interviews.” This research phase appears to involve a committed team led by Sneha Rajani, a former head at Sony, who is actively working on unfolding the narrative.

Modi’s recollection of the timeline indicates a thorough approach to storytelling, aiming to encapsulate the essence of his experiences. The project appears focused on highlighting his significant contributions to the world of cricket and his tenure within the IPL. As the scripting progresses, the details around the story are being carefully considered to resonate with potential audiences.

As of now, there is no official release date, but the anticipation surrounding the film is evident. The involvement of prominent figures like Ranveer Singh could attract attention, given his substantial acclaim in the film industry. The biopic aims to shed light on Modi’s multifaceted journey and influence within cricket administration.

Comments on Sushmita Sen and Personal Reflections

In addition to discussing his biopic, Lalit Modi recently defended actress Sushmita Sen during an interview, addressing criticisms regarding her financial independence. Speaking to Humans of Bombay, he described Sen as a “beautiful, successful and self-made woman”, asserting that her accomplishments are a result of her own efforts. He remarked on her wealth, indicating, “She has more diamonds than almost anyone I know, and she earned everything herself.”

Modi also clarified that Sen was not financially reliant on him during their relationship, and playfully referred to himself as a “diamond digger”, asserting his admiration for her achievements. His supportive comments aim to counter persistent stereotypes and challenge the narratives surrounding her success.

With his complex history in both cricket administration and personal relationships, Modi continues to attract media attention, highlighting ongoing developments in his professional and personal life. His public statements reflect a mix of pride in accomplishments and support for individuals he respects.
