KT Rama Rao, the working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), has launched a vigorous criticism of the Congress-led Telangana government during a press conference held on August 3 in Hyderabad. He accused the administration of neglecting its commitments regarding employment, governance, and irrigation. KTR highlighted that both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have failed to fulfil their promises, particularly concerning job opportunities for the youth.

During his address, KTR questioned the effectiveness of the Job Calendar promised by the Congress party, stating that significant employment commitments made before the Assembly elections remain unfulfilled. He mentioned that Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had previously pledged that two lakh youth would be provided government jobs in the first year of a Congress government, but lamented that only ten thousand jobs had been created in the government sector to date.

He expressed concern over the emotional toll these unfulfilled promises may have on young people, referencing an incident involving a youth who allegedly attempted suicide and left a letter criticising governmental inaction. KTR urged students and job seekers to avoid taking drastic measures and assured them that should the BRS return to power, job creation would be a top priority.

KTR Condemns Comments on Engineers and Asks for Accountability

KTR further condemned Rahul Gandhi for not responding to remarks made by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who allegedly described engineers as “criminal waste”. He argued that such statements undermine the contributions of engineers to infrastructure development, both within Telangana and beyond. KTR emphasised that engineers have been instrumental in building significant projects including flyovers and irrigation systems in Hyderabad, and asserted that these professionals deserve recognition rather than derision.

The former minister brought attention to a specific case involving a child named Venu, who reportedly wrote a suicide note directed at Rahul Gandhi, urging him to address the ongoing issues facing the youth in Telangana. KTR posed a direct challenge to Rahul Gandhi, questioning why there had been no public denunciation of the disparaging remarks about engineers. He accused the Congress party of failing to address the priorities related to job opportunities for Telangana’s youth.

He maintained that the Congress government has not only neglected its job commitments but has also overseen a decline in available jobs, with claims that approximately seven thousand IT positions have been lost under its watch. KTR called for transparency from the government on these pressing employment issues.

KTR Raises Concerns Over Irrigation and Project Management

KTR also directed his criticism at the Congress government for inadequate management of irrigation resources, notably during the monsoon season. He alleged that valuable water from the Godavari River has been wasted, resulting in significant losses for farmers who have not received the necessary irrigation support. He defended the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project and questioned whether the government truly understands its operation.

In addition to these issues, KTR alleged malpractices in the government’s administration of the Hyderabad Metro project, claiming that numerous major initiatives have been marred by scandals. He reiterated accusations of political harassment directed at BRS leaders by the Congress government, stating that such actions are detrimental to the state’s political climate.

KTR concluded by calling for a 15-day Assembly session to address pressing concerns related to unemployment, governance, and farmers’ needs. He urged the Congress government to act on its electoral promises and engage meaningfully with the issues affecting the youth of Telangana. KTR’s pointed remarks included a challenge to Rahul Gandhi, questioning his commitment to implement the promised job calendar, suggesting a willingness to escalate the matter to a national level if necessary.
