The CSR Journal Magazine

The Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) Kandla Chairman, Sushil Kumar Singh, inaugurated the “Ann-Shetra” and buttermilk distribution initiative. The week-long programme aims to provide nutritional food and refreshing beverages for port workers during the hot summer months. Singh formally launched the drive by cutting a ceremonial ribbon, marking the initiative’s commencement.

This welfare programme is a collaborative effort between the Indian Rice Exporters Federation (IREF) and the DPA. The aim is to cater to the dietary needs of workers in the port area, acknowledging their essential contributions to port operations. By offering nutritious meals and buttermilk, the initiative seeks to enhance the well-being of the workforce.

During the inauguration, Singh emphasised the importance of the port’s workforce, stating that the strength of the port lies in its hardworking personnel, who are integral to the enhancement and progress of the maritime sector in India.

Support for Port Workers Acknowledged by Federation

Attendees at the inauguration included key figures such as B. Ratna Sekhar Rao, Traffic Manager of DPA, and various dignitaries representing the local business community. Noteworthy participants included Tejabhai Kangad, President of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI); Mahesh Tirthani, Secretary of GCCI; and Narendra Ramani, State President of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation.

The event underscored a sense of community and collaboration between stakeholders in the port, as the IREF conveyed its best wishes for the joint initiative with DPA Kandla. The objective of this programme is to uplift the standards of living for those working tirelessly within the port environment.

Future Implications of the Initiative

This initiative represents a broader commitment to support the welfare of the port workforce and ensure their health and productivity during challenging weather conditions. The provision of nutritious food and beverages is expected to contribute positively to the morale and efficiency of the port workers.

As part of the drive, nutritious meals will be distributed daily throughout the week. The implementation of the “Ann-Shetra” programme is anticipated to set a precedent for future welfare initiatives that can be adopted in similar environments, promoting a culture of care and responsibility among port authorities and organisations.

Overall, the launch of the “Ann-Shetra” and buttermilk distribution drive is a significant step towards recognising and addressing the daily challenges faced by port workers. The support from various stakeholders reflects a collective effort to foster a more humane working environment in India’s maritime sector.
