“Iran Will Either Have a Deal or US Will Do Nasty Things”: Trump

The CSR Journal Magazine

US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States is approaching the final stages of negotiations with Iran. He expressed optimism regarding a possible agreement but warned of potential repercussions if the deal is not signed. During a press briefing at Joint Base Andrews, while en route to Groton, Connecticut, Trump stated, “We’re in the final stages with Iran. We’ll see what happens. Either they have a deal or we’re going to do some things that are a little bit nasty, but hopefully that won’t happen.”

Comments on Israeli Prime Minister

Trump also expressed his opinion on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, asserting that Netanyahu is a capable leader who follows his directives. He referred to Netanyahu as a “very good man” and claimed that he is not adequately supported in Israel. Trump further mentioned that he feels he could achieve significant popularity in Israel, stating, “Right now, I’m at 99% in Israel. I could run for Prime Minister, so maybe after I do this, I’ll go to Israel and run for Prime Minister.”

Trump’s admiration for Netanyahu included commentary on his wartime leadership, suggesting that he deserves more respect than he currently receives. He alluded to an apparent lack of support from the Israeli president, adding, “I just don’t think they treat him well. I think they have a president over there that treats him very poorly.”

Insights on Military Engagements

During his comments, Trump compared the current military involvement in Iran to past conflicts, highlighting the duration and human cost of various historical wars. He noted that the US has been engaged in conflict with Iran for only three months, contrasting this brief tenure with the extensive military campaigns in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq. “We’ll see what happens. Look at it this way: you were in Vietnam for 19 years, you were in Afghanistan for 10 years, you were in Iraq for 12 years, you were in Korea for 7 years,” he stated.

Trump mentioned the loss of life during these conflicts, underlining that while recent casualties in Iran involved thirteen individuals, many other wars led to a far greater toll. He remarked, “Now, 13 people is 13 too many, but we lost 13 people. In other wars, you lost hundreds of thousands of people.”

The President stressed that the situation in Iran is under control, suggesting the country has been “decimated.” He expressed confidence in the future, pledging that the next three years of his presidency will bring significant developments for the US, stating, “You’re going to see a lot of amazing things over the next three years for our country.”

Iran’s Response to Trump’s Statements

In response to the evolving situation, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian emphasised the importance of mutual respect in diplomacy, declaring that it is more effective than military confrontation. In a recent social media post, Pezeshkian highlighted that Iran has consistently adhered to its commitments and is committed to avoiding war where possible. He stated, “Forcing Iran to surrender through coercion is nothing but an illusion.”

Pezeshkian reiterated that open channels remain available for dialogue, reinforcing that respect in diplomatic discussions is essential for long-term stability. This perspective contrasts sharply with Trump’s warnings and reflects Iran’s ongoing position in the face of external pressures.
