‘Immediate Ceasefire’ On The Table As Peace Talks Advance, Says Trump

The CSR Journal Magazine

US President Donald Trump has claimed that both Israel and Iran are seeking an immediate ceasefire even as fresh military exchanges between the two countries threaten to derail fragile diplomatic efforts aimed at ending the prolonged conflict in West Asia.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said negotiations towards a broader peace agreement were progressing and suggested that a breakthrough could be close, provided political miscalculations do not obstruct the process.

“Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE! Final negotiations on ‘Peace’ are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way,” Trump wrote.

The US President also indicated that Washington would maintain pressure on Tehran until a comprehensive agreement is finalised. He said the existing blockade would remain fully in force while negotiations continued.

“The Blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a ‘Final Deal’ is reached. Things should move quickly,” the post added.

Conflict Reaches 100-Day Mark Amid Fresh Escalation

Trump’s remarks came as Israel and Iran exchanged direct fire on Monday, marking the conflict’s 100th day. The latest escalation has raised fears of a wider regional war and placed ongoing diplomatic efforts under severe strain.

The renewed violence included reported strikes on an Iranian petrochemical facility, while Iran’s Revolutionary Guard confirmed attacks targeting two Israeli military bases.

The exchange of attacks unfolded just hours after reports suggested Trump had urged Israel to avoid retaliatory action following missile launches from Iran.

The latest flare-up followed Israeli airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday. Iran subsequently launched retaliatory strikes against Israel, triggering a fresh cycle of attacks and counterattacks across multiple fronts on Monday.

The developments have cast uncertainty over attempts to secure a lasting settlement to a conflict that began on February 28 and has since drawn international concern over regional stability and energy security.

India Calls For Immediate De-Escalation

Reacting to the latest hostilities, India reiterated its call for restraint and stressed that diplomacy remains the only viable path to restoring peace in the region.

In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs expressed concern over the renewed violence and highlighted the humanitarian and economic consequences of the prolonged conflict.

“India deeply regrets the renewed attacks in West Asia. These developments are a matter of utmost concern to the international community. This conflict has now lasted over 100 days and has already caused immense human suffering. It has also had a debilitating impact on the global economy and energy supplies,” the ministry said.

New Delhi urged all parties to immediately reduce tensions, protect civilians and conclude ongoing negotiations aimed at achieving a diplomatic resolution.

“We call on all parties to immediately de-escalate tensions, ensure that civilians are not harmed and conclude ongoing negotiations for a diplomatic solution so that peace and stability can return to the region,” the statement added.

Regional Stability Under Threat

The latest escalation comes amid heightened tensions across West Asia, with military engagements reported in multiple locations and strategic installations targeted by both sides.

Analysts warn that any further deterioration in the security situation could have far-reaching implications for global energy markets, international shipping routes and broader regional stability.

While Trump’s assertion that both sides are interested in an immediate ceasefire may offer a glimmer of hope, the intensity of the latest attacks underscores the fragile nature of the situation and the challenges facing negotiators seeking a durable peace agreement.

With hostilities entering their fourth month, international attention remains focused on whether diplomatic channels can prevent the conflict from spiralling into a larger regional confrontation.
