Four Students Injured After Building Wall Collapses Onto Faridabad School During Storm

The CSR Journal Magazine

Four students from the Upper Kindergarten level were injured when a wall from an adjacent under-construction building fell onto the roof of a private school in Faridabad. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 23, around 9 am, during severe thunderstorms that affected the area. At the time of the collapse, approximately 13 students were present inside the classroom.

The falling wall caused a section of the classroom ceiling to cave in, trapping students under debris. School staff promptly initiated rescue operations, managing to free the trapped children before transporting them for medical treatment. Following the incident, the school was evacuated for safety reasons.

Response and Injuries

Visual evidence from the scene depicted damage to the classroom, with pieces of the ceiling and debris littering the area, including a ceiling fan that was adversely affected. The injured students were initially attended to at a nearby clinic and subsequently moved to BK Hospital and Faridabad Civil Hospital for further medical care. Family members arrived at both the school and the hospitals shortly after receiving notifications of the incident.

Witness accounts from relatives indicated that the children sustained injuries from falling debris. One parent reported that her daughter had sustained head injuries necessitating multiple stitches. These injuries prompted urgent medical attention as families sought information on the well-being of their children.

This event took place on the last day of classes before the summer vacation in Haryana, which is set to begin on May 25. The timing of the incident raised further concerns among parents about the safety of school environments, especially during adverse weather conditions.

Investigation and Legal Actions

The preliminary investigation pointed to the collapse being linked to a four-storey building under construction at the rear of the school premises. Police identified the property owner, Deepanshu, who allegedly constructed the wall without adequate support pillars. Officials indicated that the management of the school had repeatedly expressed safety concerns regarding the construction activities taking place nearby.

A senior police official stated, “We are gathering information regarding the construction and verifying whether proper permission was obtained. Appropriate actions will be taken in accordance with the law.” The investigation aims to determine if construction safety regulations were breached and if those involved will be held accountable.

The school manager, Moolchand Sharma, also expressed dissatisfaction regarding the incident and cited negligence in the construction efforts. He confirmed the school’s intent to pursue legal action against the building owner in light of the injuries that occurred as a result of the incident. This course of action reflects the growing concerns over construction safety and accountability in the area.
