Family in Telangana Forced to Carry Son’s Body on Pushcart Amid Ambulance Shortage

The CSR Journal Magazine

A tragic event has emerged from Telangana, where a family had to carry their deceased son on a pushcart, as there was no available transport. The incident took place in the Shankarapatnam mandal of Karimnagar district, following the death of a man named Yakub, who succumbed to an illness. Unable to secure a vehicle and lacking the means to hire a private ambulance, relatives resorted to using a pushcart to return him home.

This situation has sparked considerable outrage among local residents, who have voiced their distress regarding the absence of essential transport options, particularly in critical circumstances. The community’s discontent reflects a broader issue of infrastructure inadequacies in various regions of India.

Previous Instances of Transport Challenges

This is not the first occurrence highlighting the difficulties families face due to insufficient transport facilities. In January of the current year, a 35-year-old woman suffering from tuberculosis passed away at a hospital in Faridabad. Her family was reportedly compelled to transport her body back home using a motorised pushcart for nearly twelve kilometres after allegedly being denied assistance from hospital personnel.

A video that circulated online depicted a man moving his deceased mother on a pushcart, while his son was seen covering her face with a cloth. This distressing scene underlined the urgency for improvements in healthcare support and transport provisions for families dealing with such tragic situations.

Additionally, in August 2025, a police officer in Telangana encountered a similar predicament when forced to carry a deceased individual on a pushcart due to the delayed arrival of an ambulance. In that case, a collision involving a tipper lorry and a motorcycle led to the death of a 26-year-old man named Mogulaiah. Although an ambulance was called to handle the body transport, it did not arrive in a timely manner, prompting the police to place the deceased on a pushcart typically used for selling lemons.

Community Response and Urgent Need for Change

The community’s response to these incidents has been one of frustration, with many residents calling for immediate reforms in transport logistics and emergency services. The lack of timely ambulances can have dire consequences for families during critical moments, as evidenced by these recent instances.

Local officials have been urged to address the growing concern over inadequate transportation options in emergencies. The repeated failures of ambulance services have garnered attention on social media platforms, further amplifying calls for improvement in public health infrastructure.

These incidents exemplify a pressing need for systemic changes to ensure that families do not have to face such heart-wrenching circumstances in times of grief. As these stories continue to surface, there is a growing hope that local authorities will take notice and prioritise investments in emergency transport services, thus supporting families in their times of need.
