Emirates Flight from Dubai Arrives Late in Chennai Amid West Asia Tensions

The CSR Journal Magazine

An Emirates flight from Dubai landed at Chennai International Airport approximately one hour behind schedule early Friday morning. The delay was attributed to air clearance protocols, as tensions rise in the West Asian region. Passengers noted that the delayed departure occurred from Dubai International Airport, reflecting the ongoing situation affecting air travel.

Passengers Describe Conditions During Travel

Among the passengers was Messool, a medical student who expressed concerns regarding the war-related tensions impacting education. He mentioned that educational institutions had shifted to virtual classes for a week and that Ramadan holidays had been declared, with a need for caution among students. He recounted hearing interception sounds during the journey, reiterating the importance of safety precautions. Messool noted that online classes are scheduled to resume on March 23 until conditions improve.

Another passenger, Sumana, reported a safe journey despite experiencing some loud noises during the flight. She stated that her flight from Abu Dhabi to Chennai was initially delayed but ultimately landed without incident. Ashish, another traveler, echoed these sentiments, confirming that the atmosphere in Dubai remained stable despite occasional disturbances. He clarified that the one-hour delay was due to air clearance measures mandated by authorities.

Ministry of Civil Aviation Monitoring Situation

The Ministry of Civil Aviation is actively monitoring the ongoing developments in the West Asia region and their effects on air travel between India and neighboring countries. Airlines are implementing necessary operational changes to ensure passenger safety and maintain orderly flight operations. In a recently issued statement, the Ministry highlighted that flight operations by Indian carriers to and from Riyadh resumed on March 12, restoring significant air connectivity between India and Saudi Arabia.

On the first day of these resumed flights, three services were operated to Mumbai with Air India and IndiGo, while Air India Express provided one service to Calicut. From February 28 to March 11, over 150,000 air passengers traveled from Gulf nations to India, showcasing the ongoing demand for connectivity despite the regional tensions. On March 12, Indian carriers scheduled 57 inbound flights from various West Asian cities, including Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Fujairah, Jeddah, Muscat, Ras Al Khaimah, Riyadh, and Sharjah, contingent on operational feasibility.

Airfares and Passenger Advisories

The Ministry is in close coordination with airlines and other relevant stakeholders to ensure a fluid passenger experience. They are also actively monitoring airfares to prevent unreasonable surges in ticket prices during this period. Passengers are encouraged to remain in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates concerning flight schedules and travel logistics. As the situation unfolds, the Ministry plans to issue ongoing updates as needed.
