Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath recently dismissed the label of “BIMARU” or unruly state during an event in Mathura. He asserted that under his administration, Uttar Pradesh has evolved into “New India’s new UP.” This statement was made at Aaj Tak’s ‘Panchayat Aaj Tak Mathura’, where he shared his government’s successes as the state approaches the 2027 Assembly elections, predicting a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Adityanath contrasted the current conditions with those prior to 2017, noting issues such as poor law and order, violence, and mafia influence that deterred investors. He particularly targeted the preceding Samajwadi Party government, alleging that it perpetuated a culture of dynastic politics that hindered development.

The Chief Minister claimed that his administration has dismantled the “Saifai and Rampur syndicates,” which he said had previously controlled government jobs and engaged in corrupt practices. He asserted that government job appointments are now being made transparently and without corrupt influences.

Improvements in Law and Order and Economic Growth

Yogi Adityanath mentioned that since 2017, his government has established the rule of law and adopted a strict approach regarding criminal activities. He attributed the enhanced security environment to the revival of investor confidence in Uttar Pradesh. The CM highlighted key infrastructure projects, including enhanced expressways and improved connectivity, positioning Uttar Pradesh as a burgeoning industrial hub.

Adityanath further stated that the state has progressed from being among the bottom three economies to becoming one of the top three in India. He emphasised the importance of security, transparent policies, and a streamlined governance system in attracting investments.

He critiqued previous governments for allegedly protecting mafias and criminals, which he argued severely impeded growth in tourism, women’s safety, and youth employment in the state.

Achievements of the BJP Government Highlighted

The Chief Minister underlined the accomplishments of nearly nine-and-a-half years of BJP governance, attributing significant infrastructure advances and agricultural growth to government initiatives. Uttar Pradesh, he claimed, comprises only 11 per cent of India’s cultivable land yet contributes 21 per cent of the country’s foodgrains. He also noted an increase in the state’s agricultural growth rate, rising from eight per cent to between 18 per cent and 21 per cent.

Adityanath pointed out that prior to 2017, 29 sugar mills in the state had closed down, leaving outstanding payments to sugarcane farmers. In contrast, since taking office, he reported that 122 sugar mills are now operational and there has been no further closure of any mills.

Through the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, the government has aimed to promote unique products from various districts. Examples cited include Firozabad glass, Moradabad brass, Lucknow chikankari, and Varanasi silk sarees. This initiative has also extended to local cuisine, with Mathura’s peda being featured.

Moreover, the Chief Minister acknowledged that better facilities have enabled women’s self-help groups to attain economic independence while generating substantial revenue.

Focus on Employment, Technology, and Women’s Safety

On the topic of employment, Adityanath asserted that numerous young people have secured government positions through transparent hiring processes devoid of nepotism or bribes. He highlighted an emphasis on self-employment and startups, with plans for establishing a Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Skilling and Employment Zone in each district.

He also referred to advancements in training for emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence and drone technology, alongside educational initiatives aimed at providing free devices to facilitate learning for students in competitive exams.

Regarding women’s safety, the Mission Shakti programme was noted, with Adityanath stating that the government maintains a zero-tolerance stance on crimes against women. He emphasised stringent measures against any form of violence, asserting that those who jeopardise women’s safety face serious repercussions.

As the 2027 Assembly elections draw near, Yogi Adityanath expressed optimism that voters would continue to support the BJP based on its development and governance record, rejecting past dynastic politics in favour of the current administration’s achievements.
