Elderly Man Sparks Outrage After Allegedly Urinating Inside Lift at Delhi’s Kalkaji Metro Station

The CSR Journal Magazine

A video circulating online has showcased an incident at Delhi’s Kalkaji Metro Station, where a woman confronted an elderly man accused of urinating inside a metro lift. The footage has sparked significant public outrage, with many individuals expressing their discomfort on various social media platforms. Reports indicate that at least three other passengers were present in the confined space during the event.

In the recorded clip, the woman is heard challenging the elderly man, questioning his choice to allegedly urinate in a public facility. Eyewitness accounts suggest that her confrontation was met with a dismissive response from the man, escalating the tension among the passengers inside the lift.

Authorities Launch Inquiry into the Matter

Following the video’s widespread dissemination, the Delhi Metro Rail Police swiftly initiated an inquiry. Metro DCP B. Bharat Reddy confirmed that steps have been taken against the elderly individual under the provisions of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) Act. This action reflects the authorities’ commitment to maintaining decorum within the metro system.

In an official statement, the police provided context for the incident, revealing that it occurred on 15 May 2026 at approximately 9.40 pm. The elderly man was en route from Jamia Metro Station to Faridabad Metro Station, and during his interchange at Kalkaji Metro Station, he reportedly suffered a medical emergency. Authorities stated that he sought a nearby toilet but was unable to access one in time, leading to the unfortunate necessity of urinating in a bottle while inside the lift.

The police report indicated that other passengers expressed their disapproval of the man’s actions, prompting them to inform the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and DMRC personnel. This chain of communication ultimately resulted in an official intervention.

Medical Condition Taken into Consideration

The authorities have clarified that the elderly man deals with a medical issue related to bladder control, which necessitates him carrying a bottle during his travels. This detail has sparked discussions regarding empathy and the challenges faced by individuals with medical conditions in public spaces.

As a consequence of the incident, the DMRC has penalised the elderly man under Section 59 of the DMRC Act for causing a disturbance within the metro premises. However, recognising the exceptional circumstances and his medical condition, authorities decided not to pursue criminal charges against him. This decision reflects an understanding of the nuanced realities that individuals may face when travelling in public facilities.

The incident has raised awareness about the need for accessible facilities, such as restrooms, especially in high-traffic areas like metro stations. Authorities may consider reviewing available resources to ensure that medical emergencies are managed effectively in the future, helping to avoid similar situations.<|vq_13284|>
