Disproportionate Assets Case: Bihar Government Engineer Pawan Kumar Faces Raids

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar Police executed simultaneous raids on six locations connected to Pawan Kumar, an Executive Engineer and Director-level officer within the Building Construction Department, on June 24, 2026. This operation is part of an investigation into allegations regarding disproportionate assets amassed by Kumar.

According to a press release from the EOU, a verification was prompted by credible information suggesting that Kumar has reportedly accumulated assets valued at Rs 3.89 crore that exceed his declared income sources. The report indicates that these assets are approximately 103.94 per cent higher than what he is legally entitled to based on his earnings.

As a result of these findings, the EOU has filed a case under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and secured search warrants from the Special Vigilance Court located in Patna. The raids commenced on the morning of June 24 and are being closely monitored by senior officials from the department.

Locations Involved in the Search Operations

The operation includes raids at multiple premises associated with Kumar, such as his residence at Yugal Niwas Apartment in Sri Krishna Puri, Patna, and his office. Additional sites under scrutiny comprise a house situated in the Tilkamanjhi area of Bhagalpur, two residential properties in Noida, and a flat located in Sector 10 of Dwarka, New Delhi.

During the ongoing searches, officials have reportedly discovered several significant documents at flat no 305 in the Yugal Niwas Apartment, including land ownership papers and items of jewellery. Investigators are currently analysing these documents to determine their relevance to the case.

Furthermore, initial findings have unveiled details of land purchases allegedly made by Kumar along the Patna-Bakhtiyarpur highway, which is estimated to be worth several crores. Additional information regarding these properties is expected to be released upon completion of the verification process.

Current Status of the Investigation

Beyond Patna, the EOU teams are also conducting searches across various locations in the Delhi-NCR region. A particular focus is on Kumar’s flat in Dwarka Sector 10, as part of the broader investigation into his financial dealings.

Reports indicate that the EOU has been collecting evidence over a considerable period in response to claims that Kumar has built up assets significantly greater than his known income levels. As part of the investigation, Kumar is currently being interrogated by authorities.

As the operation continues, EOU officials have pledged to disseminate detailed information concerning the assets recovered and any documents secured once the search operations are fully concluded. This case is indicative of ongoing efforts to tackle corruption within government ranks and uphold transparency in public service.
