A 17-year-old boy has died from injuries sustained during a shooting incident that occurred outside an eatery in Amar Colony, South East Delhi. The police reported that the teenager succumbed to his injuries after a prolonged battle, having been treated at two medical facilities following the incident. Initially transported to Moolchand Hospital, he was later moved to the AIIMS Trauma Centre, where he ultimately passed away.

Investigation and Arrests

The Delhi Police Crime Branch is currently investigating the case and has reportedly arrested a juvenile thought to be the primary suspect in the shooting. Two additional individuals alleged to have participated in the incident have been detained for questioning. According to police reports, a total of five boys are believed to be involved in the episode, which has raised concerns regarding youth violence in the area.

Investigators detailed that the victim, who lived in Chattarpur Enclave and was the son of a laundry business owner, was dining with friends at a well-known Amar Colony establishment at the time of the incident. An altercation was said to have begun when one of the boys from a passing group allegedly brushed against the teenager’s chair, leading to a verbal dispute.

Following the initial argument, it is reported that the group left the vicinity but returned shortly after. Police accounts indicate that one of the boys then produced a firearm and fired a single shot at the teenager, before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no other persons were harmed during the incident, although the victim sustained a serious neck injury from the gunfire.

Response and Community Impact

Following the shooting, a call was made to the police control room at approximately 7:54 pm, alerting them to the incident. Local police officers were dispatched to the area, but by the time they arrived, the victim had already been transported to a healthcare facility for emergency care. This response time has been under scrutiny as it poses questions about the adequacy of local policing in promptly addressing such violent incidents.

Crime scene investigators have carried out a thorough examination of the location, focusing on collecting evidence and understanding the events that ensued. Furthermore, authorities have reviewed CCTV footage from both the restaurant and surrounding premises, alongside employing technical surveillance methods to track the individuals involved and reconstruct the incident.

The tragedy has stirred conversations within the community regarding safety and youth behaviour, highlighting the need for more effective measures to prevent such violence from occurring in public spaces. The police are continuing their efforts to secure further evidence and ascertain the complete narrative surrounding the shooting.
