Delhi Police has formally lodged an FIR regarding the alleged exposure of the identity of the Unnao rape survivor and the sharing of inappropriate material featuring her on social media. This development was disclosed during a court proceeding presided over by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) Ashwani Panwar at Rouse Avenue Court. The police submitted a status report indicating that the FIR was registered at the Cyber Police Station on August 6, following a new complaint filed by the survivor.

The FIR addresses claims related to the violation of the victim’s anonymity in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case, noting that objectionable comments and images were spread across various social media platforms. The survivor’s legal approach underscores a commitment to justice, particularly in light of previous incidents that had previously left her vulnerable to online harassment.

Previous Legal Actions and Ongoing Concerns

The survivor has reportedly informed the court that a previous FIR was filed in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, in 2025, which remains unresolved in a local court. Despite this earlier legal effort, she claimed that the dissemination of her identity and related images continued unabated on social media channels, thereby contravening existing laws aimed at protecting the identity of sexual assault survivors. This situation highlights persistent challenges faced by victims in seeking privacy and justice.
