Delhi-NCR to Experience Thunderstorm and Gusty Winds with Orange Alert Issued

The CSR Journal Magazine

Delhi-NCR is expected to face a series of rain showers and thunderstorms, as announced by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which has issued an Orange Alert for a number of areas in the national capital. The warning comes after a period of humid and unsettled weather conditions experienced in the region.

According to the IMD’s latest update, light to moderate rainfall along with thunderstorms and gusty winds of 50 to 60 kmph, potentially reaching up to 70 kmph, is anticipated over numerous districts including South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, and others. Residents have been urged to prepare for these rapidly changing weather conditions.

In light of the potential for strong winds, which may lead to the uprooting of weak trees and minor structural damage, authorities recommend that individuals exercise caution during this period. The Orange Alert serves to alert the public to the possible hazards associated with these weather phenomena.

Rain Expected in Surrounding Areas

In addition to the forecast for Delhi, neighbouring regions are also expected to experience similar weather. The IMD has warned that areas in Haryana, such as Sonipat, Rohtak, and Jhajjar, along with sections of western Uttar Pradesh including Nandgaon and Barsana, may see light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds.

Furthermore, several districts in Rajasthan, including Tizara, Alwar, and Bharatpur, are predicted to encounter such weather conditions, with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph. These forecasts indicate that the impact of this weather system will extend beyond Delhi-NCR, affecting a wider area in northern India.

The ongoing advancement of the southwest monsoon across northern India is expected to contribute to increased moisture levels in the atmosphere. This moisture, in conjunction with local climatic developments, is likely to instigate thunderstorms in various regions, including Delhi-NCR and adjacent states.

Advisories for Public Safety and Motorists

In response to the impending weather changes, meteorologists have issued precautionary advice to residents. Individuals are recommended to avoid taking shelter under isolated trees or remaining close to electric poles during thunderstorms, as these could pose safety risks. Additionally, securing loose items outdoors is essential to prevent damage from strong winds.

Motorists should be particularly vigilant, as sudden rainfalls may result in reduced visibility and increased chances of waterlogging in low-lying areas. Driving attentively is crucial to ensure safety during these adverse conditions.

As the thunderstorms are expected to persist throughout the day, residents of Delhi can anticipate a much-needed reduction in temperatures, providing some relief from the prevailing hot and humid weather. The arrival of these rain showers is likely to enhance comfort levels for the citizens in the upcoming days.
