What first appeared to be a case of accidental electrocution has now unraveled into a disturbing murder investigation in Delhi. On July 13, 36-year-old Karan Dev was brought unconscious to Mata Rooprani Maggo Hospital by his wife, Sushmita, who claimed he had suffered an electric shock. The hospital declared him dead on arrival.

Though Karan’s family initially believed it to be a tragic accident and waived the post-mortem, the Delhi Police remained unconvinced due to the victim’s relatively young age and the suspicious circumstances. Ignoring objections from both Sushmita and Karan’s cousin, Rahul, police sent the body for an autopsy at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital.

Brother’s Tip Leads to Shocking Revelations

According to reports, three days after the incident, Karan’s younger brother, Kunal, approached police with a serious allegation. He suspected his brother had been murdered by Sushmita and their cousin Rahul. To support his claim, he reportedly provided screenshots of an Instagram chat between the two alleged lovers.

To the police’s surprise the conversations revealed a premeditated plot between the alleged lovers. Sushmita and Rahul were in an extramarital affair and had discussed eliminating Karan. On the night of the murder, the duo reportedly gave Karan 15 sleeping pills during dinner. Once he was unconscious, they Googled how long the pills would take to work, then waited for him to fall into deep sedation before giving him an electric shock to stage the murder as an accident.

Accused Confesses During Police Interrogation

Upon revelation the police took Sushmita into custody. After questioning she eventually confessed to the crime. She admitted to killing her husband with Rahul’s help. During interrogation, she claimed that Karan had slapped her. She also claimed that he verbally abused her a day before Karwa Chauth. She further alleged that he frequently demanded money. This caused her emotional and physical distress.

Reports suggest that Rahul, who is also a cousin of the victim, is said to have assisted in the entire planning and execution of the murder. The couple’s digital trail, including internet searches and messages, further supported the police’s theory of premeditated murder.

Legal Action Underway as Investigation Continues

Dwarka Deputy Commissioner of Police Ankit Singh confirmed that a case has been registered under appropriate sections of the law. He said the arrest process is ongoing and a detailed post-mortem report is awaited to complete the investigation.

The incident has left the community shocked, as what was first believed to be an unfortunate accident has now been revealed as a cold-blooded act of betrayal and murder within a family.
