Delhi Launches 13 Mobile Heat Relief Units to Combat Extreme Summer Temperatures

The CSR Journal Magazine

Delhi has introduced thirteen mobile heat relief units as part of its effort to provide assistance during the ongoing intense summer heat. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched these units to address the rising temperatures that have been affecting citizens throughout the national capital. The initiative especially targets daily wage workers, commuters, and individuals who spend extended periods outdoors.

The launch coincides with the implementation of the Heat Action Plan 2026, a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing preparedness for extreme summer conditions. This plan underlines the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents during challenging weather periods.

Features of Mobile Heat Relief Units

The mobile heat relief units, one designated for each of Delhi’s districts, are intended to function as moving relief centres. They will operate daily between 11 am and 6 pm in high-traffic public areas, including markets, labour hotspots, and bus stations. The goal is to provide immediate support and resources to those most vulnerable to heat exposure.

Each unit is equipped with essential supplies, including chilled drinking water, ORS packets, first-aid kits, towels, and caps, all aimed at helping individuals manage the heat more effectively. To ensure these resources reach those in need, over one hundred volunteers have been enlisted to assist with distribution during peak afternoon hours.

The Delhi government has also released an emergency helpline number, 112, which residents can contact in case of urgent assistance required for heat-related emergencies.

Enhancing Healthcare Preparedness

The government has reported that healthcare facilities across Delhi are preparing for a possible increase in heatstroke cases. According to officials, over 339 health centres have made arrangements for cool rooms, ice packs, and other necessary medications associated with heat treatment. These efforts illustrate the administration’s proactive approach to safeguarding public health during extreme weather conditions.

Moreover, the administration is evaluating water supply management throughout the city to prevent shortages as demand spikes during the summer months. Officials have been directed to ensure a reliable water supply and respond promptly to any complaints from residents regarding water availability.
