Delhi Government Schools To Conduct Summer Remedial Classes

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Directorate of Education under the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi has declared an academic framework for government schools during the forthcoming summer break. The official circular notes that summer holidays for all government schools will commence on 11 May 2026 and extend until 30 June 2026. Prior to this full holiday period, remedial classes for students in Classes 9, 10, and 12 will be held from 11 May to 23 May 2026, with the objective of enhancing academic performance and learning outcomes.

This initiative seeks to assist students in revising crucial concepts and better preparing for board examinations and other significant assessments. The structured approach aims to provide targeted support to address learning gaps experienced by students.

Details from the Official Circular

According to the directive from the Directorate of Education, the scheduling of the remedial sessions will depend on the availability of teaching staff and the facilities at each school. In schools operating on a double-shift basis, classes will be organised in separate sections to promote effective management. Heads of schools are required to develop timetables ahead of time and submit these to the respective District Deputy Directors of Education (DDE).

Furthermore, it is mandated that students and parents be notified of the remedial classes through various communication platforms, ensuring that all stakeholders are well-informed about the new academic schedule.

For students in Classes 9 and 10, the primary emphasis will be placed on Science and Mathematics, although schools may adjust focus subjects based on an evaluation of student performance and needs. For Class 12, subject selection will be determined by the Head of the School in alignment with examination requirements and student achievements.

Schedule and Attendance Requirements

The remedial classes will adhere to a consistent timetable. The daily routine is as follows: students will attend sessions from 7:30 am to 10:30 am, while teachers are expected to be present from 7:20 am until 11:00 am. Each day will consist of three one-hour periods starting at 7:30 am, 8:30 am, and 9:30 am.

Attendance will be documented electronically, and students are required to wear their school uniforms during these classes. Additionally, parental consent in the form of a No Objection Certificate (NOC) is mandatory for students to participate in the remedial sessions.

Support and Monitoring Measures

Schools are tasked with ensuring the availability of clean drinking water, essential facilities, and access to library resources to support self-study. Emphasis will be placed on providing individual attention to enhance student learning. Where necessary, guest and contract teachers may be engaged, particularly if regular staff members are unavailable during this period.

Teachers designated for this remedial phase will receive earned leave for their services, while compensation for guest teachers will align with established regulations. District-level education officers have been instructed to monitor the rigorous implementation of the remedial classes. These officials are expected to conduct regular visits to schools throughout the remedial session to ensure progress is being made.

This initiative is reflective of the Delhi government’s commitment to reinforcing foundational learning and improving outcomes in board examinations by providing structured academic support during the summer vacation.
