The Delhi government has taken significant action against illegal constructions in the capital by inspecting numerous sites and demolishing properties. On Thursday, June 11, 2026, officials reported the inspection of 47 locations in various districts, as part of a broader crackdown on infrastructure violations.

According to the Revenue Department of the Delhi government, a total of 607 sites were examined between June 5 and June 10. Following the latest inspections, the overall number of sites scrutinised has risen to 654, with restraining orders placed in the North district to halt ongoing violations.

Simultaneously, in the Outer North district, demolition activities remained vigorous. Relevant cases were referred to both the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the Fire Department for legal action. The authorities have issued multiple show-cause notices in various districts, including North East and South.

Details of the Enforcement Drive

During the period from June 1 to June 11, the MCD has demolished a total of 179 properties and sealed 206 others as part of the ongoing enforcement drive. In this timeframe, the civic body also issued 252 show-cause notices for unauthorised constructions, along with 111 sealing notices and 82 demolition orders.

This aggressive approach follows a series of tragic incidents associated with inadequate civic infrastructure and breaches of fire safety regulations. Notably, two catastrophic events in Malviya Nagar and Hauz Rani resulted in the deaths of several individuals due to structural failures and fires attributed to poor safety compliance.

On June 3, a fire at a five-storey Bed & Breakfast facility in Hauz Rani led to the fatalities of 23 individuals, including several foreign nationals. Such incidents have prompted Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to assure the public that stringent action would be taken against unauthorised constructions and those responsible for granting approvals to such structures.

The recent enforcement actions are a direct response to public outcry and the need to safeguard residents from the dangers posed by unauthorised structures. The Delhi government aims to reinforce adherence to building regulations and fire safety norms across the city.
