Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday recognised the efforts of rescuers and local residents who played pivotal roles in saving lives during the fire incident in Malviya Nagar and the recent building collapse in Saidulajab. This tribute was also extended to the victims of both tragedies, highlighting the profound impact these events have had on the community.

Ceremony at Delhi Secretariat

A special event was convened at the Delhi Secretariat, where CM Gupta personally met and presented awards to the individuals involved in the rescue operations. This included police personnel, administrative officials, rescue workers, and local citizens. Each honouree received commendation certificates and financial support of Rs 21,000 as a gesture of appreciation for their selfless actions.

Among those acknowledged was Riyazuddin Mansoori, who notably assisted during the Malviya Nagar fire by laying out mattresses from his shop to help rescue victims. Besides his commendation certificate, he also received reimbursement for the mattresses used in his noble effort, further illustrating the community spirit that emerged during the crisis.

While honouring these heroes, CM Gupta conveyed her condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, announcing an ex-gratia payment of Rs 10 lakh to the bereaved families. Additionally, financial aid of Rs 2 lakh was promised to those injured in the incidents, demonstrating a commitment to supporting affected individuals promptly.

Commitment to Timely Relief

The Chief Minister instructed officials to expedite the disbursement of compensation and ensure transparency, assuring that the affected families would receive necessary support within a fixed timeline. This proactive approach aims to alleviate the hardships faced by those impacted by these tragedies.

The Delhi government emphasised its salute to the heroes who prioritised human safety over personal risk and extended assistance to others during critical moments. According to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), the government is dedicated to recognising such bravery within the community.

Among those who demonstrated courage during the Saidulajab building collapse were Chander Prakash, the district project officer of the South District Disaster Management Authority, and Delhi Police Inspector Ritesh Kumar Sharma. Other honourable mentions include constables Manish Kumar Jangid, Vivek Shakya, Angad Meena, as well as local residents Kapil Giri and Harjeet Kumar.

The list of citizens and officials honoured for their heroic actions during the rescue efforts in Malviya Nagar encompasses several individuals. Notable honorees included Israr Khan, Kamal Kumar, Shashi Kumar, Pawan Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Sanjay Goyal, Shiv Kumar, and others who collectively contributed to saving lives during the incident.

Furthermore, officers such as Inspector Vinay Yadav and head constables Dinesh, Kartar, Rajveer, and Deshraj were also acknowledged for their significant roles in facilitating the rescue operations amid chaotic circumstances. These recognitions serve as reminders of the spirit of community and the importance of collective action in times of crisis.
