The recent protest march organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) towards Parliament in New Delhi led to significant violence, resulting in the injury of more than 50 police and paramilitary personnel. According to sources from the Delhi Police, the injured include officers from the Indian Police Service (IPS) and the Delhi Andaman Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS). The incident occurred on July 20, 2026, prompting authorities to initiate the registration of cases related to the unrest.

Reports indicate that the police detained multiple individuals believed to be involved in the violent acts. Officers are analysing video footage captured during the protest to identify other suspects. Among the injured personnel, at least ten are reported to be IPS and DANIPS officers. Currently, some officers are receiving medical treatment, which may result in the overall number of injured personnel rising further.

In light of the violence, Delhi Police have made public appeals for calm, urging protestors to maintain order and exercise self-restraint. They highlighted the importance of complying with lawful directives issued by law enforcement officials present at the site. The police also cautioned against spreading or believing in unverified information and urged citizens to rely on credible sources.

Union Health Minister’s Interaction with Protesters

A delegation from the Cockroach Janata Party met with Union Health Minister JP Nadda on the same day to present their demands amid the protest. Nadda, who also serves as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, acknowledged the meeting, stating that discussions commenced around 11:50 am and continued in a cordial environment.

During the meeting, CJP representatives delivered a written petition detailing three specific demands. Notably, they are calling for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and for a compensation package of Rs 1 crore for the families of NEET aspirants, over 20 of whom have reportedly lost their lives. Furthermore, they demanded the immediate release of activist Sonam Wangchuk, currently hospitalised.

Das further elaborated that the protest would persist until Pradhan’s resignation is secured. The demands were conveyed during the four-hour meeting, with Nadda indicating that he would raise the issues internally, although no commitments were made by him at that time. The protestors expressed their intent to remain active until their demands are addressed.

Parliamentary Proceedings Amid Protests

The start of the monsoon session in Parliament on the same day was marked by significant disruptions, with opposition parties pressing for adjournments in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. Their demands primarily centred around issues related to the NEET-UG exam leak, reflecting the broader concerns raised during the protest.

As tensions continued, Delhi Police urged all participants in the protest to act peacefully and not engage in any unlawful activities. The police reiterated the importance of public order during these demonstrations, further emphasizing that collaboration with law enforcement is crucial for restoring normalcy.
