A tragic incident occurred in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district on Friday morning, resulting in the death of a 25-year-old woman. The victim, identified as Purnima Chauhan, was shot by two masked men who allegedly entered her home in Jondhra village around 11 am. Police reports indicate that the motive for this brutal act remains unclear as investigations are ongoing.

Chauhan, a sales executive at a private firm, had been residing at her parents’ house after her marriage ended approximately two to three years ago. The attack raised concerns in the local community, prompting multiple police teams to be formed to capture the assailants.

Details of the Attack

According to police accounts, the two assailants arrived at the scene on a motorcycle, concealing their identities with white scarves. One man, armed with a firearm, entered the house while the other remained outside. Upon gaining entry, he inquired about Chauhan’s whereabouts, and when she appeared, he reportedly opened fire.

Reports suggest that the attacker fired three shots, with one bullet striking Chauhan in the head and others hitting her body. The sound of gunfire drew her family members, who rushed to the scene only to discover her lying critically injured in a pool of blood.

Family members promptly contacted the police. A Dial-112 emergency response team quickly arrived and transported Chauhan to a nearby hospital, where medical staff declared her dead upon arrival, according to an official source.

Investigation Underway

Following the incident, senior police officials and a forensic team inspected the crime scene to gather evidence. The authorities have also begun reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas in search of clues that could lead to the identification of the assailants.

Sakti’s Superintendent of Police, Prafull Thakur, confirmed that an investigation is currently taking place, highlighting that all potential motives are being explored. Despite ongoing efforts, the reason behind the murder and the identity of the shooters have yet to be established as police continue their inquiries.

The incident has sparked widespread concern among residents in Sakti district, with many calling for heightened security measures. Social media has also seen an uptick in discussions about safety and policing in the area, as the community seeks answers and justice for the tragic death of Chauhan.
