CBI Files FIR Over NEET-UG 2026 Paper Leak

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially filed a First Information Report (FIR) concerning alleged irregularities and a paper leak associated with the NEET-UG 2026 examination. This action was carried out on May 12,  following a formal complaint presented by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education. The FIR includes multiple charges, indicating serious concerns regarding the integrity of the examination process.

The FIR cites offences such as criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, theft, and destruction of evidence. These charges fall under several legal frameworks, including the Indian Penal Code as well as the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Public Examination Prevention of Unfair Means Act 2024. The decision to file the FIR represents a significant step towards addressing these alleged discrepancies within the examination process.

NEET-UG 2026 Examination Cancelled

In light of the cancellation, the government has confirmed that a new date for the re-conduction of the NEET-UG examination will be announced shortly. This move aims to ensure that the integrity of the examination process is restored, reassuring candidates and stakeholders about the fairness of the upcoming test.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), responsible for conducting the NEET exams, indicated that the decision to cancel the examination was not taken lightly. It clarified that such measures are essential to maintain the credibility of the educational assessment system and to safeguard the interests of aspiring medical students across India.

CBI Forming Special Teams for Detailed Inquiry

In response to the situation, the CBI has established special teams tasked with investigating the allegations thoroughly. These teams have been dispatched to various locations across the country to gather evidence and interrogate individuals relevant to the case. The intention is to uncover the truth behind the alleged misconduct associated with the examination.

The investigation not only aims to address the immediate concerns surrounding the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak but also seeks to instate a broader inquiry into potential systemic issues that may exist within the examination framework. This will include a review of administrative practices and safeguards intended to prevent such incidents in the future.

Authorities emphasise that the outcomes of this investigation will be crucial for determining appropriate further actions, which may involve legal proceedings against those found complicit in the alleged irregularities. The CBI’s commitment to ensuring justice in this matter reflects the government’s resolution to uphold academic integrity.
