The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has successfully restored crucial connectivity to Huri in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kurung Kumey district by constructing a 200-foot Bailey Bridge. This initiative came after the region’s previous bridge was swept away during flash floods that occurred on the night of July 11 and resulted in significant isolation for the community.

The complete destruction of the bridge halted the movement of people, emergency services, and essential supplies, creating a substantial impact on daily life in Huri. Following this natural disaster, the BRO mobilised quickly to address the disruption and re-establish the link.

Challenges Faced by BRO Teams

The restoration effort was undertaken with urgency by Project Arunank under particularly difficult conditions. Teams from the 85 RCC and 756 BRTF of the BRO encountered continuous heavy rainfall, strong river currents, and unstable soil, which complicated the foundation work and preparation of the approach roads.

In addition to adverse weather, the remote site posed challenges regarding resource availability. Frequent landslides also disrupted operations, further necessitating rapid action and adaptability from the BRO personnel. Despite these obstacles, the teams maintained their commitment to completing the task efficiently.

The collaborative efforts of the BRO involved not only the swift construction of the bridge but also the extensive clearance of mudslides, repairs on affected road sections, and enhancements to access routes. These additional tasks were essential to facilitate the movement of both personnel and machinery to the specified site.

Residents of Huri have expressed their appreciation for the BRO’s efforts, recognising the significance of reopened routes in their daily lives. The restored bridge not only re-establishes transportation but also provides a renewed sense of security and accessibility for the community.
