BJP To Convene Legislature Party Meeting In Dharmasthala Over Cross-Voting Allegations

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Karnataka BJP State President, BY Vijayendra, announced on Sunday that the party plans to organise a meeting of its legislature party in Dharmasthala to address allegations of cross-voting during the recent Legislative Council elections. This decision was made while addressing reporters at the party’s state office, Jagannath Bhavan, in Bengaluru.

Vijayendra stated that he intends to discuss the proposal with R Ashoka, the Leader of the Opposition. He emphasised the significance of the meeting’s location, indicating that holding it at the holy site expressed the party’s commitment to uncovering the truth regarding the alleged betrayal by certain MLAs.

According to Vijayendra, the issue of cross-voting has caused unrest among party workers, and he expressed his discontent with the situation. He remarked that recent social media criticisms reflect an attempt by some individuals to undermine the party indirectly. He insisted that the BJP must clarify the facts to the public, uphold its reputation, and provide reassurance to its members.

Concerns About Party Unity

Vijayendra addressed concerns raised by party workers who are reportedly disturbed by the actions of four BJP MLAs, who have been accused of participating in cross-voting during the Legislative Council elections. The allegations have led to a cloud of suspicion over the conduct of all 63 BJP MLAs, which, according to him, has deeply affected party morale.

He further described the situation as “deeply saddening,” revealing that he had been awake until the early morning discussing these issues with the BJP national president. Vijayendra and R Ashoka plan to travel to Delhi to engage with senior party leaders on the matter, reiterating the urgency and seriousness of the allegations.

To investigate these concerns more thoroughly, a fact-finding committee has been established, including prominent party members such as CT Ravi, Mahesh Tenginkai, and former minister Kollegal Mahesh. The committee’s objective is to explore the accusations and report back with findings to assure party members and the electorate.

Political Implications and Future Actions

Vijayendra highlighted that the BJP is a national party that has gained its mandates through the dedication of its workers and the trust of voters. He noted that the support received by the party was largely due to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, he acknowledged that the secret ballot system in the elections has resulted in doubts being cast on the integrity of all BJP MLAs.

In response to Kumar Bangarappa’s calls for significant organisational changes within the BJP, as well as the suggestion to appoint Yatnal as the Leader of the Opposition, Vijayendra stated that he would address the concerns of those involved. He also challenged his critics to demonstrate their political strength during local body elections, indicating a willingness to engage with dissent within the party work.

The upcoming meeting in Dharmasthala is anticipated to clarify the party’s position on the cross-voting allegations and to restore confidence among its ranks. Amidst these tensions, Vijayendra’s leadership will be crucial in navigating the challenges facing the BJP in Karnataka.
