“BJP to Form Government with Two-Thirds Majority in Bengal”: Sukanta Majumdar

The CSR Journal Magazine

Sukanta Majumdar, the Union Minister, has expressed strong confidence regarding the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) performance in the ongoing elections, asserting that the party is poised to achieve a two-thirds majority in West Bengal. During a media interaction on April 26, Majumdar vocally supported the party’s electoral prospects, stating, “The BJP is going to form the government with a two-thirds majority.” This declaration has been made amid the backdrop of significant political activity within the state.

Election Commission’s Role Highlighted

Majumdar also commended the Election Commission for its effective management of the polling process. He labelled their efforts as “tremendous”, noting that they have ensured the elections are conducted smoothly. Although he acknowledged that there were isolated incidents during the first phase of voting, he maintained that the overall experience had been “good” and principally peaceful. This assessment reflects the BJP’s focus on a transparent and orderly electoral process.

Specifically referencing the incidents that occurred, the Union Minister pointed out that they were not indicative of widespread issues. His remarks underscore the BJP’s commitment to promoting a democratic atmosphere in West Bengal’s elections, despite challenges that may arise. By praising the Election Commission, Majumdar aims to solidify public confidence in the electoral process.

Prime Minister Modi Criticises Opponents

Meanwhile, during a rally in North 24 Parganas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi levelled criticism against the incumbent Trinamool Congress (TMC) party. He specifically addressed the mismanagement surrounding Argentine football superstar Lionel Messi’s visit to Kolkata’s Salt Lake Stadium last year. Modi attributed the alleged failures in coordination to what he described as the TMC’s “Maha Jungle Raj”, suggesting that the TMC has negatively impacted the state’s sports culture.

In his speech, he claimed that the TMC has “destroyed the sports ecosystem” in the region. Modi referred to the negative global perceptions resulting from poorly managed sporting events, indicating that such incidents reflect systemic issues within the ruling party. He assured athletes from Bengal that the BJP intends to revitalise the state’s sports culture through initiatives like the ‘Khelo India’ campaign, pledging to foster a new sports ecosystem.

Modi’s remarks were part of a broader strategy to connect with voters, particularly those concerned about sports and cultural events in the region. By highlighting perceived failings of the TMC, he aims to galvanise support for the BJP’s agenda of change in West Bengal.

Poll Statistics and Upcoming Phases

As the first phase of voting concluded on April 26 at 6 pm, West Bengal registered a notable voter turnout of 91.78 per cent, according to the Election Commission of India. This level of participation signals a dynamic electoral exercise, conducted under stringent security measures across various constituencies. The high turnout figures indicate a keen interest among voters in the outcomes of the elections, reflecting a competitive political landscape.

The electoral process will continue with the second phase of polling set to commence on April 29, while the counting of votes is scheduled for May 4. As West Bengal progresses through these electoral phases, the performance of the BJP and other parties will be closely monitored, adding to the political narrative in the state.

Overall, the ongoing elections in West Bengal are shaping up to be a significant event, with major implications for all political entities involved. The BJP’s assertive stance and strategic framing of their narratives are likely to play a crucial role in influencing voter behaviour in the coming days.
