Biden Calls Trump ‘A Loser’, Alleges Corruption In Sharpest Attack Since Leaving Office

The CSR Journal Magazine

Former US President Joe Biden mounted a strong criticism of President Donald Trump during a Democratic Party fundraiser in Maryland, accusing his successor of corruption, poor governance and placing personal interests above national priorities.

Speaking at a fundraising gala hosted by the Maryland Democratic Party in Hanover, Biden attacked several policies and decisions of the Trump administration, ranging from construction projects in Washington to foreign policy and the handling of those involved in the January 6 Capitol attack.

Biden Criticises Washington Projects And Capitol Riot Pardons

Biden questioned a series of construction and redevelopment initiatives undertaken by the Trump administration in the US capital.

He specifically criticised changes to the White House East Wing, proposals involving a triumphal arch and the redevelopment of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, arguing that such projects reflected misplaced priorities.

According to Biden, the administration’s focus on reshaping prominent landmarks in Washington highlighted broader concerns about leadership and governance.

The former president also took aim at efforts to compensate individuals convicted in connection with the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, many of whom later received presidential pardons from Trump.

Expressing disbelief at the move, Biden remarked: “Whoa! What a loser.”

Corruption Allegations Over Federal Contract

Biden also criticised the awarding of a contract related to upgrades at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.

He alleged that a lucrative contract to install a new water filtration system was awarded without competition to a donor who had supported Trump’s political campaign and lived near the president’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida.

Referring to the matter, Biden said: “It’s the corruption, the corruption, the brazen, blatant corruption. Corruption on a scale never seen before in American history in any administration.”

The remarks represented some of Biden’s strongest accusations against the Trump administration since leaving office.

Former President Questions Trump’s Foreign Policy

Turning to international affairs, Biden criticised Trump’s approach to foreign policy, particularly his stance towards Russia following the 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

He argued that Trump’s actions had weakened long-standing American alliances and undermined the role of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

“He’s diminished our standing in the world more than any president in history has,” Biden said.

The former president maintained that Washington’s global influence had been damaged by decisions taken during Trump’s second term.

Speech Comes Two Years After Pivotal Debate

The address carried added political significance as it was delivered exactly two years after Biden’s widely criticised debate performance against Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign.

The debate is widely seen as a turning point that ultimately led Biden to withdraw from the race for a second term.

Following his exit from the contest, Biden endorsed then Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee.

Trump went on to defeat Harris in the November 2024 election, securing a second term in the White House and returning to office after his earlier presidency.

Biden’s latest remarks signal that despite stepping away from electoral politics, he remains willing to publicly challenge Trump’s record and policies as the political rivalry between the two leaders continues to shape the national debate.
