On Saturday, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of Punjab distributed appointment letters for 866 government positions in an event held in Mohali. He highlighted that this initiative reflects an increased trust in the government’s recruitment process. Mann asserted that the state’s recruitment system has transformed from one previously characterised by corruption and nepotism to a more transparent, merit-based approach.

During the event, the Chief Minister revealed that his government has successfully provided a total of 69,094 government jobs while ensuring complete transparency throughout the process. He noted that a significant portion of the new appointments, specifically 636, are in the Health and Family Welfare Department, including 614 positions for staff nurses.

CM Mann emphasised a new era of hiring, stating, “Hard work and dedication have been the sole criteria for selection,” asserting that jobs are allocated solely on merit without any undue influence or recommendations.

Linking Employment to Education Performance

Mann connected the government’s focus on employment with improved educational outcomes within the state. He claimed Punjab has surpassed Kerala to secure the top position in the country concerning school education performance. Additionally, he cited that 882 students from government schools cleared the NEET examination this year, a significant increase from just 80 students in 2021.

The Chief Minister attributed these improvements to various initiatives aimed at enhancing school facilities and the quality of teaching. He explained that teachers have received advanced training in countries such as Singapore and Finland, as well as at IIM Ahmedabad, in preparation for adopting contemporary teaching methodologies.

Structural enhancements in government schools have reportedly included new furniture, IT-enabled instruction, well-stocked libraries, and improved sanitation facilities. The appointment of campus managers aims to address developmental needs within these educational institutions.

Addressing Previous Governments and Migration Trends

Mann took the opportunity to criticise past governments, suggesting they prioritised personal gain over public welfare. He claimed they engaged in extensive corruption and favouritism, resulting in job allocations primarily to their associates.

He noted that previous administrations had failed to address the needs of talented youth, who felt compelled to migrate abroad, thus impeding the region’s socio-economic progress. Since assuming office in 2022, Mann argued that his government has reversed this trend by creating employment opportunities across Punjab’s villages, towns, and cities.

Citing these initiatives, the Chief Minister concluded that the transparent recruitment process has significantly contributed to the decline in youth migration. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to building confidence among young people through job security and educational investment.

Mann expressed optimism for Punjab’s future, congratulating the newly appointed candidates and praising the perseverance and determination of students from ordinary families. He stated that their achievements reflect the potential of Punjab’s youth, who are capable of reaching any goal with the right support.
