Army Remembers Pahalgam Victims, Says ‘Response Is Assured’ Against Terror

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Indian Army has marked the first anniversary of the terror attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, by reaffirming its commitment to counter-terrorism. The attack, which occurred on April 22, 2025, was a significant incident in the region, as terrorists entered the popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir and opened fire on unarmed individuals, causing national outrage.

In remembrance of the attack, the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) on social media reiterated that any acts against India would be met with a definitive response. It stated, “For acts against India, the response is assured. Justice will be served. Always,” in a post accompanied by visuals related to Operation Sindoor.

Families of the victims are still coming to terms with their loss, as the attack was alleged to involve the perpetrators questioning the religious identities of their victims before executing them. The brutality of the incident continues to have lasting repercussions in the local community.

Operation Sindoor and Military Action Against Terrorism

In reaction to the Pahalgam attack, the Indian armed forces initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025. This operation targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Official sources revealed that Indian forces successfully dismantled nine significant terror launchpads linked to groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen, eliminating over 100 combatants.

Following the military operations, Pakistan launched counterattacks which resulted in a four-day skirmish between the two nations. India’s armed forces retaliated effectively, targeting strategic radar installations in Lahore and associated facilities near Gurjanwala, further escalating tensions across the border.

A ceasefire was eventually negotiated on May 10 after the Director General of Military Operations from Pakistan contacted his Indian counterpart amidst heavy damage. Moreover, in a further security operation, named Operation Mahadev, Indian forces successfully located and eliminated three terrorists implicated in the Pahalgam incident.

Government’s Commitment to Counter Terrorism

Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a statement on the anniversary, expressing solidarity with the families affected by the Pahalgam attack. He emphasised India’s unyielding resolve to fight terrorism, reiterating that the nation will not succumb to violent threats. The Prime Minister’s post conveyed that the memories of those lost in the attack remain etched in the nation’s consciousness.

Furthermore, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh confirmed that Operation Sindoor is ongoing, showcasing the readiness of the Indian armed forces to engage with any terrorist activity. Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi described Operation Sindoor as an excellent example of tri-service cooperation, illustrating a unified military strategy directed towards countering threats.

The Indian Air Force also played a critical role, with Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh calling the operation a crucial demonstration of military precision and response to acts of aggression. Additionally, the Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, noted that military deployments influenced Pakistan’s naval positioning, reflecting ongoing tensions.
