The CSR Journal Magazine

Actor Hrithik Roshan has shown his support for education activist Sonam Wangchuk, who is currently engaged in an indefinite hunger strike concerning alleged irregularities in examinations. This move aligns him with various members of the film industry who have echoed similar concerns about students facing challenges related to their academic pursuits.

On Friday, the actor shared a video featuring Wangchuk, originally posted by fellow actor Lisa Ray, on his Instagram Stories. He expressed that Wangchuk’s message resonates with him deeply, calling attention to the struggles that students endure during their educational journeys.

Hrithik remarked, “This sounds true. I learnt about the trauma students go through when I played a teacher in one of my movies.” His statement reflects an understanding of the critical issues raised by Wangchuk regarding the pressure and implications of examination discrepancies on young learners.

Details of the Ongoing Protests

The protests regarding the alleged examination irregularities have persisted at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. This movement was initiated by the Cockroach Janata Party on June 6, with demonstrators calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Sonam Wangchuk has been a prominent figure in these demonstrations, joining the protest on June 28 and subsequently launching his hunger strike to amplify the students’ concerns.

In the video that Hrithik Roshan shared, Wangchuk elaborated on the challenges faced by students as they prepare for competitive examinations. He urged the public to raise their voices in support of transparency and accountability, emphasising that such issues significantly impact the future of the nation.

Hrithik’s involvement in this matter recalls his role in the film Super 30, where he portrayed Anand Kumar, a mathematician dedicated to mentoring underprivileged students. This role allowed the actor to gain insights into the educational struggles faced by many young people today.

Health Concerns and Official Response

As the situation developed over the weekend, Sonam Wangchuk was moved to Safdarjung Hospital following medical advice and directions from the Delhi High Court due to deteriorating health. The transfer occurred on July 17, indicating the seriousness of Wangchuk’s hunger strike and the escalating concern for his wellbeing.

Wangchuk’s hunger strike has drawn attention not only to the flawed examination process but also to the broader implications for students’ futures. Supporters of Wangchuk have rallied around his cause, with many demanding immediate action against the alleged irregularities.

The protests continue to attract significant attention from various sectors of society, highlighting the need for reform in the education system. As the movement gains momentum, it is evident that the dialogue surrounding examination integrity will remain a critical issue among students, educators, and policy makers alike.
