Apple Plans to Launch New Apple TV 4K and HomePod Mini This Year

The CSR Journal Magazine

Apple is preparing to reveal updated versions of the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini later this year. This is set to be the first significant update for these devices in several years. The existing HomePod mini was introduced in 2020, while the current Apple TV 4K was launched in 2022.

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg has reported that the hardware for both devices has been ready for months and has reportedly been in use among Apple staff for internal testing. Nevertheless, the release of these products has allegedly been postponed to coincide with the introduction of a new Siri experience that is powered by Apple Intelligence.

The upgraded Siri is anticipated to be unveiled alongside the new versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled for June 9, 2026. If Apple adheres to its proposed software timeline, the refreshed Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini are likely to be released in the latter half of 2026, probably around September.

Expected Hardware Enhancements

Speculation indicates that the upcoming models will feature enhanced internal components; however, significant changes to their exterior design are not expected. Currently, the Apple TV 4K operates on the A15 Bionic chip, but the new version is rumoured to be equipped with the A17 Pro processor. This upgrade is said to offer improved performance and compatibility with Apple Intelligence features.

Additionally, the device may incorporate an in-house networking chip that would facilitate support for new connectivity standards, such as Wi-Fi 7. The HomePod mini is also set for a hardware update, anticipated to transition from the older S5 chip to a newer S9 processor or a later version. However, details regarding how Apple will implement advanced AI features on the compact speaker remain unclear.

Gurman has suggested that the Apple TV 4K will likely maintain a design similar to its predecessor, indicating a focus on internal improvements rather than external aesthetics.

Siri Remote May Undergo Minor Changes

The Siri Remote is expected to receive a slight modification alongside the new Apple TV 4K. While Apple has not made any official comments regarding this, reports suggest that minor enhancements to the remote might accompany the devices’ launch.

The delays in refreshing the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini have been attributed to Apple’s desire to synchronise their release with the introduction of the revamped Siri experience. The company has encountered multiple hurdles in rolling out its next-generation voice assistant, which has consequently extended the timeline for several related products.

In addition to the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini, there are also reports suggesting that Apple is working on an upgraded full-sized HomePod and a dedicated smart home hub. These devices are thought to be part of the company’s broader strategy concerning AI and its Siri technology.
