Amit Jani Clarifies Legal Notice Regarding Kala Hiran Film

The CSR Journal Magazine

Producer Amit Jani has addressed the legal notice issued by Salman Khan’s legal representatives concerning the film “Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy.” This film has been perceived as being influenced by Khan’s ongoing blackbuck poaching case. In an interview, Jani described the notice as hasty, asserting that the film does not serve as a biopic on Salman Khan, but instead encompasses a broader narrative centred around events recognised in the public domain and the Bishnoi community’s ties to wildlife preservation.

Content and Focus of the Film

Jani expressed surprise at the legal action, especially considering that only the initial poster of the film has been released to the public. The film’s teaser is anticipated to debut on June 20. He argued that the case’s details and its surrounding events are part of public knowledge and thus suitable for representation on screen. “This film is not a biopic about Salman Khan. It highlights a larger narrative involving the Bishnoi community, their challenges, and their profound association with wildlife,” he stated.

He emphasized that the storyline concentrates on the viewpoints of those connected to the issue rather than focusing solely on the accused. Jani claimed that cinematic depictions of real-life occurrences are typically constructed through the stories of victims, witnesses, and those affected by such cases.

Responding to accusations that the film unjustly targets Salman Khan, Jani categorically denied any such motives. He asserted that neither Khan nor gangster Lawrence Bishnoi are presented negatively in the film. “Our portrayal of Salman Khan does not carry a negative bias, nor have we tried to elevate Lawrence Bishnoi’s image. The film showcases facts that are accessible to the public while shedding light on the beliefs and heritage of the Bishnoi community,” he explained.

Legal Notice Demands and Next Steps

In relation to the legal notice’s request for the cessation of promotional activities, Jani suggested that this move appeared designed to discourage involvement from the project’s associates. He implied that there is pressure being exerted due to Salman Khan’s prominence within the film industry. Jani articulated his team’s readiness to defend their position in court if necessary, stating, “If we are summoned by the court, we will be present to assert our case. We have taken similar actions in past situations and are prepared to engage with the legal process.”

The legal notice from Salman Khan’s team demands an immediate stop to the film’s release, including the removal of all promotional materials. Moreover, it warns of potential further legal actions should these requirements not be fulfilled.

Directed by Bharat S Shrinate and produced by Amit Jani under Firefox Media Private Limited, “Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy” has recently showcased its first-look poster. The film has been described as a suspenseful action drama inspired by actual legal struggles and associated events, with the teaser set to be released on June 20.
