Akhilesh Yadav, the National President of the Samajwadi Party, has launched a pointed critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), labelling it as the fundamental source of the various issues afflicting the nation. On July 24, he took to the social media platform X, where he expressed his views using a metaphor highlighting the ineffectiveness of superficial remedies in the face of deep-rooted problems. Yadav asserted that true challenges require addressing the foundational issues rather than merely focusing on surface-level solutions.

In his post, Yadav stated, “When the disease is in the ROOT, no one is going to buy treating the FRUIT,” stressing that all of the country’s problems are interconnected with the BJP. This sharp rhetoric appears to echo a growing frustration among opposition parties regarding the ruling government’s policies and governance style.

Moreover, Yadav reinforced his stance by advocating for the BJP’s removal from power, adopting the slogan: “NO FAST TRACK; BJP GO BACK!” His statements resonate with ongoing national demonstrations, particularly geared towards the examination system and calls for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

On the previous day, various students’ organisations convened in Bhopal, expressing solidarity with the activists at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. They not only demanded the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan but also condemned police actions against peaceful demonstrations. Issues surrounding unemployment and the demand for promptly filling vacant government positions were also central themes of their protests.

Participants in these demonstrations hailed from nearly 20 districts of Madhya Pradesh, underscoring the widespread discontent with the current government’s management of education and employment. This collective uprising signifies a crucial moment for the youth, who are frustrated by perceived inadequacies in governmental responses to fundamental issues affecting their future.

The protests are not limited to Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh; other states have also witnessed similar activism. In Himachal Pradesh, for instance, the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), affiliated with the Communist Party of India (Marxist), held protests in Shimla. Their actions were in support of the student-led movements against the alleged NEET paper leak, reiterating demands for the resignation of the Union Education Minister.

Demonstrations have been reported in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Bihar as well, signalling a nationwide challenge faced by the current administration regarding their education policies. Inquiries into the integrity of national-level examinations have become a focal point of dissent and have amplified calls for reform in governance regarding public education.
