AGP’s Atul Bora Highlights Development Efforts Amid Assam Poll Results

The CSR Journal Magazine

Atul Bora, the President of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), has articulated his confidence in the performance of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) as the counting of votes progresses in Assam. He attributed this optimism to the significant development initiatives undertaken by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Bora has claimed that the electorate of Assam is supportive of these efforts and expressed a belief that the NDA is poised for an impressive electoral performance.

In a conversation with ANI, Bora asserted, “This is a good beginning. I am sure we will win…NDA has chances of performing better than before.” He emphasised the government’s commitment to development in the state, suggesting that the populace is aligned with their agenda. Furthermore, he claimed that the Congress party has not effectively served the interests of the people of Assam.

Current Trends in the Assam Assembly Elections

As of May 4, 2026, the Electoral Commission of India (ECI) reported emerging trends indicating that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading significantly in the Assembly elections. With results still being tabulated, current projections suggest that the BJP is well above the majority threshold of 64 seats, buoyed by a strong consolidation of Hindu voter demographics. This shift in voter behaviour is seen as a crucial factor that has altered the political landscape in Assam.

According to the latest updates, the BJP is reportedly ahead in 79 seats, while the Indian National Congress has secured 23 seats. The Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) is leading in 10 seats, and the AGP has a presence in 9 constituencies. Additionally, the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) is ahead in 2 seats, while Raijor Dal (RJRD) and the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) have garnered leads in two and one seat, respectively. These figures underscore a significant challenge for the Congress-led opposition.

Amid these developments, it is anticipated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the BJP headquarters in New Delhi on the same evening. The Prime Minister’s visit is scheduled against the backdrop of the party’s early gains in both West Bengal and Assam. BJP chief spokesperson Anil Baluni confirmed the Prime Minister’s plans in a statement released on X.

Political Implications of the Election Trends

The ongoing voting counts and its outcomes are likely to have significant implications for the political dynamics in Assam. With the BJP allegedly making substantial gains, the trends expose a stark setback for the Congress-led opposition, who may face challenges in regaining ground in the forthcoming political scenario.

As the counting progresses, the implications of the voter preferences could reshape the governance of Assam and influence future policies. The results reflect the sentiments of the electorate regarding the performance of the incumbent government, possibly reaffirming the popularity of the current administration led by Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Overall, the evolving political picture in Assam is being closely monitored as the final results are awaited. The BJP’s anticipated performance may lead to enhanced support for their policies and development initiatives, thereby impacting the political landscape in the state for years to come.
