UP Police Arranges Girl’s Wedding After Brother’s Murder, Bears ₹1.5 Lakh Cost

A very heartwarming display of compassion and public service has come to light from Uttar Pradesh. The police officials in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district came together to organise the wedding of a young woman. The woman, Uday Kumari’s family was devastated after her brother was killed by dacoits. Not just that, all their wedding savings were looted by the dacoits.

What happened?

The wedding was originally scheduled for May 5, but it had to be postponed. This comes after a tragic incident on April 24, when Shivdeen, Kumari’s brother, was shot dead. The tragic incident occurred during a robbery at their home in Dhannipurwa village, Umri Begumganj. The attackers, later identified as members of the notorious Pasi gang. The attackers not only killed the family’s breadwinner but also stole the money saved for the wedding.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Jaiswal said, “The girl was to be married on May 5, but on the night of April 24, her brother Shivdeen was shot dead by robbers who had broken into their home. As a result, the wedding had to be called off”.

Police Crack Down on Criminals

Following the tragedy, the Gonda Superintendent of Police Vineet Jaiswal launched a crackdown on the gang. According to reports, multiple teams from the police and Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) were deployed. Following the major crackdown four suspects were arrested by the police. Furthermore, two key gang members, Gyan Chand Pasi and Sonu Pasi were killed in separate police encounters in May. Both were carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh.

According to reports, Gyan Chand, the leader of the dacoits who killed her brother, was seriously injured in an encounter with a Special Task Force (STF) team led by Inspector Arun Singh on May 8. He died while undergoing treatment at the government hospital. Gyan Chand has a bounty of Rs 1 lakh on him.

Police recovered an illegal 32-bore pistol, a rifle, 315-bore, a 12-bore gun and large quantities of cartridges from him.

However, interestingly the police’s involvement didn’t stop at law enforcement duties. The police took support from the STF and guidance from senior officials including STF Chief Amitabh Yash. Following this, the police took full responsibility for Kumari’s wedding from expenses to arrangements.

Wedding Funded and Organised by Police

The UP Police Officers arranged the venue, decorations, food, and rituals for the wedding. The wedding took place on Thursday night. SP Vineet Jaiswal and his wife, Dr. Tanvi Jaiswal, along with members of the State Women’s Commission and police family welfare group VAMA Sarathi, stood by the bride’s side throughout the wedding celebrations.

According to reports, the police team gifted the couple Rs 1.51 lakh in cash. Along with that, gold and silver jewellery, and essential household items were also gifted to the couple. The police were also seen warmly welcoming the groom’s family, reinforcing their to community support and commitment

“They Felt Like Family”: Bride’s Parents

Kumari’s parents, overwhelmed by the support, expressed deep gratitude to the police. “We had lost all hope. Today, it feels like God came to us in uniform,” said her mother, Shakuntala Devi. Her father added, “The police didn’t feel like officers, they became our family.”

Compassion in Uniform

SP Jaiswal, reflecting on the gesture, said, “We wanted to send out a clear message: we are not just here to fight criminals, but also to stand strongly with victims in their times of need. When a family is in crisis, it is our duty to protect, reassure, and help bring their lives back on track” .

The incident has been widely praised as an inspiring example of humane policing, a message that in times of tragedy, hope can still shine through when those in uniform choose empathy and action.
