The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) has declared its intention to hold a state-wide protest on July 28, seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into alleged irregularities in the District Selection Committee (DSC) recruitment process. This announcement was made on July 25 in Tadepalli, Andhra Pradesh, by the party’s General Secretary, Jupudi Prabhakar.

During a press briefing, Prabhakar stated that while the central government has responded to student and civil society protests regarding NEET irregularities, the state government has been unresponsive to concerns raised by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. He emphasised that the protests would advocate for the students and youth impacted by the alleged DSC irregularities, which the party has highlighted at various forums.

The YSRCP has characterised the situation as a “scam,” alleging that specific government orders were enacted to favour certain individuals prior to the examination. These orders were purportedly revoked following the recruitment process. Prabhakar noted the lack of response from the state administration despite repeated calls to address these issues.

Concerns Over Educational Welfare Schemes

In addition to allegations regarding the DSC process, Prabhakar voiced concerns about the effectiveness of welfare schemes for students. He pointed out that pending reimbursements for fees have not been cleared, putting additional financial pressure on students. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the ‘Talliki Vandanam’ scheme, citing a significant reduction in the number of beneficiaries and insufficient funds disbursed under the programme.

Prabhakar demanded transparency by calling for the public release of data related to the ‘Talliki Vandanam’ scheme. He argued that a comparison with earlier schemes would provide a clearer understanding of its shortcomings. The YSRCP believes that students are currently facing numerous hurdles stemming from inadequate governmental support.

The General Secretary reiterated the party’s commitment to advocating for students and youth, indicating that they deserve to have their voices heard in discussions about welfare policies and educational reforms.

Broader Issues of Law and Order

The YSRCP has also expressed concerns about law and order issues in the state, particularly in relation to custodial deaths and violence against Dalits and disadvantaged groups. Prabhakar highlighted that the government appears to have been silent on these critical matters despite Reddy bringing them to light consistently over the last two years.

He reaffirmed that the YSRCP is dedicated to representing the interests of various sections of society, including students, youth, and marginalized communities. The party aims to serve as a voice for these groups and hold the state government accountable for its inaction on pressing issues affecting them.

In closing, the upcoming protests signify not only the party’s demands for an investigation into the DSC but also a broader call for the state government to address the grievances affecting education and social justice in Andhra Pradesh.
