YSRCP Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) and State General Secretary Lella Appi Reddy has submitted a proposal to the Chief Electoral Officer of Andhra Pradesh, advocating for modifications to the verification process during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) for electors classified as unmapped or mismatched. This initiative follows concerns that many legitimate voters might not be able to attend verification due to employment or educational commitments, as well as temporary relocations.

Appi Reddy highlighted that numerous eligible voters could be studying, working as migrant labourers, or residing temporarily outside their home districts, making it challenging for them to appear in person on the designated verification dates. His suggestion aims to allow parents or legal guardians to submit necessary documentation on behalf of these voters, provided there is appropriate authorisation and proof of relationship.

During his discussions, Appi Reddy also noted inefficiencies in the current notice system for voters, pointing out that several communications fail to indicate the verification location. Such oversights can lead to confusion among voters, which he believes undermines the overall efficiency of the electoral process. He has called for a more structured approach, emphasising that all notices should clearly state the relevant venue, date, time, and the officer responsible.

Enhancing Accessibility and Transparency

The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) has urged the Election Commission to enhance the accessibility of the verification process. Appi Reddy proposed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) should play a pivotal role in gathering relevant documents and conducting initial verification at the grassroots level. This reform would ensure that the final decision-making remains with the competent electoral authority.

The MLC firmly believes that procedural complexities should not hinder legitimate voters from participating in the democratic process. He called for uniform instructions across the state that would simplify and make the verification process more transparent and user-friendly for voters.

In his address concerning the need for an efficient verification system, he reiterated that voters who have completed all required documentation should not face exclusion due to logistical barriers. This initiative underlines the YSRCP’s commitment to ensuring that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to engage in the electoral process without unnecessary impediments.

Following a meeting at the YSRCP Central Office in Tadepalli, Jagan Mohan Reddy provided his party members with guidance regarding the upcoming election for Deputy Chairman.
