The CSR Journal Magazine

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become India’s longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister, completing 4,399 consecutive days in office and surpassing the record of 4,398 days held by Jawaharlal Nehru after India’s first general election. The milestone marks another significant chapter in Modi’s political journey, which began when he first took office on May 26, 2014.

As news of the achievement spread, congratulatory messages poured in from world leaders across Asia, Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific, many praising Modi’s leadership and India’s growing influence on the global stage.

Global Leaders Praise India’s Rise

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake described the milestone as a reflection of the trust repeatedly placed in Modi by the people of the world’s largest democracy. In his message, he highlighted India’s economic and social progress under Modi’s leadership and noted that his governance model has inspired countries across the region.

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape hailed Modi as a role model and praised India’s development journey. He pointed to India’s achievements in poverty reduction and economic growth, expressing hope for deeper cooperation between the two nations in the years ahead.

Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar also commended Modi’s rise from humble beginnings to leading a nation of more than 1.4 billion people across three consecutive terms, describing his leadership as an example of determination and public service.

Recognition of India’s Growing Global Influence

Leaders from several countries acknowledged Modi’s role in strengthening India’s international profile. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Kenyan President William Ruto praised India’s expanding global presence and the Prime Minister’s advocacy for developing nations and the Global South.

US officials and diplomats also extended congratulations, recognising Modi’s long tenure and contributions to India’s development and global engagement. The messages reflected India’s increasing importance in international affairs and economic partnerships.

A Defining Political Achievement

Modi’s record-setting tenure comes after securing three consecutive electoral mandates in 2014, 2019 and 2024. Supporters view the milestone as evidence of sustained public confidence in his leadership and governance model. As India continues to expand its economic and diplomatic footprint, the achievement has been celebrated both domestically and internationally as a landmark moment in the country’s democratic history.
