Will Akshay Kumar Work with Vanga or Dhar? Actor Responds

The CSR Journal Magazine

Akshay Kumar has conveyed his desire to collaborate with contemporary filmmakers Aditya Dhar and Sandeep Reddy Vanga in light of the success of their recent works, “Animal” and “Dhurandhar.” During an interview conducted by podcaster Shubhankar Mishra, Kumar enthusiastically discussed the advancements in modern Indian cinema and the contributions of these directors.

In his remarks, Kumar stated, “If any of these directors think that I deserve to be in their films, they can approach me. It is essential that they present a suitable role, one that aligns with my own interests.” The actor expressed a specific preference for participating in action films.

His comments come in the wake of viewing “Animal,” where he noted the film’s bold reinterpretation of the ‘angry young man’ motif, a concept prevalent in earlier Indian cinema. Kumar highlighted the depth of emotion exhibited in this film compared to its predecessors, saying, “Bobby Deol’s character is particularly memorable.”

Kumar Applauds “Animal” and Its Themes

In discussing “Animal,” Kumar remarked on the heightened intensity with which the film portrays its protagonist’s inner turmoil. He stated, “This film revived the essence of the ‘angry young man’ archetype, but with a much stronger execution than what Amitabh Bachchan had accomplished earlier.” He elaborated that while the earlier portrayals were somewhat restrained, “Animal” took the concept to new extremes.

Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and featuring Ranbir Kapoor, “Animal” has been a commercial hit but faced scrutiny regarding its depiction of toxic masculinity and themes of misogyny. Kumar’s acknowledgment of the film’s impact reflects his appreciation for bold storytelling in cinema.

He further discussed how Vanga’s approach reinvigorated the character of the ‘angry young man’, bringing a fresh perspective to the narrative that resonated with contemporary audiences.

Kumar Highlights Aditya Dhar’s “Dhurandhar”

Alongside his praise for “Animal,” Kumar also commended Aditya Dhar’s “Dhurandhar,” which he characterised as a meticulously crafted film. He remarked, “The film offers a nuanced exploration of the country and engages with its themes effectively. Every aspect was addressed, showcasing the creators’ thorough research and understanding.” Kumar underscored the blend of reality and greater cinematic vision present in the film.

“Dhurandhar,” which was released in two parts, garnered significant acclaim and financial success, establishing itself as the highest-grossing Indian franchise, amassing Rs 3,000 crore at the box office. Kumar’s recognition of its achievements highlights the growth of the Indian film industry and the popularity of well-executed narratives.

In conclusion, Kumar expressed his openness to participating in evolving cinematic projects, emphasising his interest in joining narratives that reflect the changing landscape of Indian cinema. “If I ever get an opportunity to work in such films, I would be more than happy,” he stated.

Kumar’s recent work includes his role in “Bhooth Bangla,” marking a collaboration with director Priyadarshan after a hiatus of 14 years. This further exemplifies his commitment to exploring diverse creative avenues in his acting career.
