What is Amazon Music Unlimited? New Subscription Plan, Pricing and Features Explained

The CSR Journal Magazine

Amazon has announced significant updates to its music streaming services in India, implementing a new premium subscription plan known as Amazon Music Unlimited. This plan offers high-resolution audio playback, aiming to enhance the listening experience for users. However, a new paywall is introduced which would affect existing Amazon Music users, including Prime members.

Starting from July 2, 2026, users will experience advertisements while listening to Amazon Music unless they subscribe to the new Amazon Music Unlimited plan. Prime members can access this plan for Rs 99 per month, while non-Prime subscribers will incur a monthly cost of Rs 119. This marks a departure from the previous offering where Prime members enjoyed ad-free music streaming and offline downloads at no extra charge.

The subscription structure has evolved from a single tier available to Prime members to three distinct options: Amazon Music Unlimited, Amazon Music for Prime members, and Amazon Music Free, the latter of which will include advertisements. This restructure means Prime members will lose their ad-free experience and offline download capabilities with the introduction of the new subscription model.

Features of Amazon Music Unlimited

Amazon Music Unlimited is touted to offer access to a vast library of over 100 million songs and podcasts. The new plan also boasts features such as HD, Ultra HD, and Spatial Audio formats, along with compatibility for Dolby Atmos technology. These enhancements are designed to provide a more immersive auditory experience for listeners.

Additionally, Amazon is preparing to launch an ad-supported Amazon Music Free tier shortly. This will allow users to explore the music catalogue without incurring any subscription fees, thereby expanding accessibility for broader audiences. The introduction of this free tier aligns with Amazon’s strategy to attract new users to its platform.

Previously, Amazon Prime Video also required a subscription to access ad-free content, representing a similar shift in the company’s approach to its entertainment services. Prime members must now pay Rs 129 per month or Rs 699 annually to enjoy video streaming without ads, following this model.

Trial Offers and Pricing Details

In an effort to encourage uptake of the new Amazon Music Unlimited service, the company is offering a six-month free trial for Prime members. Non-Prime users will also have access to a three-month free trial before the standard subscription fees commence. These trial periods are designed to allow users to experience the benefits of the new service before committing to payment.

The pricing structure for Amazon Music Unlimited is set at Rs 99 per month for Prime members, while non-Prime customers will be charged Rs 119 monthly. Through these initiatives, Amazon aims to strengthen its position within the competitive music streaming market in India.

This latest move adds to Amazon’s ongoing efforts to diversify its service offerings, following recent trends within the digital entertainment industry. As the market continues to evolve, the company’s adaptations will likely play a crucial role in attracting and retaining subscribers in the long term.
